Jimbo Fisher provides update on Conner Weigman ankle injury

Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman left the game against Auburn in the second quarter with an apparent ankle injury, and coach Jimbo Fisher provided a brief update on his status following the game.
Fisher said he had “no idea” on any sort of a timeline for a return.
“I don’t know, we’ll wait and see,” he said, according to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle. “X-rays were negative.”
Weigman did not return after halftime, with backup Max Johnson getting loose in his stead and taking over the offense to start the second half.
A young, talented Texas A&M gunslinger, Weigman was in a lot of pain coming off the sideline following a low hit he took midway through the second quarter on Saturday, according to the ESPN broadcast crew.
“Conner Weigman has gone into the locker room to have further evaluation on his left ankle,” ESPN’s Kris Budden said. “They took him off in the injury tent. Jimbo Fisher went in to check on him. I watched him and heard him coming off the field, he was shouting in pain, barely able to put any pressure on that left lower leg.”

When the teams took the field after halftime, Conner Weigman was not spotted and Johnson took over.
That the Aggies have the luxury of a veteran backup quarterback who has played plenty of SEC football is a definite plus, but a Weigman injury that causes him to miss any significant time would be a blow. He had been excellent since first making his way into the lineup during the 2022 season.
Weigman had thrown for 1,805 yards and 16 touchdowns with only two interceptions in his time with Texas A&M prior to Saturday.
Johnson performed well in relief of Weigman, immediately coming in and leading back-to-back touchdown drives. He finished the game 7-of-11 passing for 123 yards and two touchdowns. He did not throw an interception. He also ran for 15 yards on four carries.
