Jimbo Fisher says bye was a 'work week' for Texas A&M

After a rocky first half of the season that was capped off by a last-second loss at Alabama, Texas A&M was glad to get the week off to gear up for an equally challenging back end of their schedule. But even though there was no game to prepare for, Jimbo Fisher’s club still practiced hard and tried to improve.
At his press conference following the off weekend, Fisher said that the past week was productive in practice and in starting to install game plans for the upcoming opponents.
“Oh, it’s got to be a work week. And fundamentals, new things you’re going to do against the other six opponents — It may be something they do unique that you have to put in you’d like to introduce to your kids during that week. So the game week, it’s not brand new to them, you know. And that can be read, part of the book on the library shelf. It means when you pull it back out, you’re having a clue what it’s about, you know what I mean? It’s been a lot of fundamental work and a lot of getting healthy and getting back in the gear. Get back in the groove.”

Fisher was also asked about the benefits of getting a mental and physical break from playing over the weekend. To which he responded that it is nice to for the players to get some time to themselves in the middle of the year before getting back out there.

“Yeah it is. I mean, the physical parts of it, you do. I mean, you get some days off and you have some hard days, because you got to train. You can’t get out of it. And then, the mental strain of not having a game. But still, the practices are very intense and you got to get into that groove. So, like what Tom Brady said once, the season starts and the whole world stops. And that’s kind of the way it is and that’s just always the way it’s going to be.”
But the off week provides a nice opportunity to spend time away from football.
“And just, whatever your friends, your girlfriend, your mom, dad, your family, whatever it is, that you can just enjoy yourself and at least get back to some normalcy that time to reconnect with a lot of things.”
So, a productive week of practice and game prep for Jimbo Fisher and the A&M football team. But also, a nice weekend off to recharge and rest up ahead of a daunting run of conference matchups coming up.
