The Texas A&M Aggies suffered from a massive flu outbreak on the team last week that contributed to their loss versus the Florida Gators on Saturday. According to head coach Jimbo Fisher, the team is back on the mend, but still not in the clear, as they prep for Week 11 versus Auburn.

“I wouldn’t say that (we’re over the flu), there’s still some cases of it but that’s part of it,” Fisher said. “I wish it was all gone.”

On top of the flu, the Aggies have lost several key contributors to injuries this season. The list of injuries is so long, Fisher couldn’t provide specific updates without the official report in front of him.

“There’s a lot of them that are out permanent that you know of and there are others that are just day-by-day, I can’t answer that right now,” Fisher said.

During his press conference on Monday, Fisher also shared that freshman quarterback Conner Weigman is healthy again. In fact, he will start versus the Tigers after missing the Florida game.

“They cleared him, he had IVs all weekend, took all that stuff, he’ll practice today,” Fisher said.

Saturday’s showdown with the Tigers will be the first game back for Weigman since he impressed in the team’s narrow loss to Ole Miss. He threw for 338 yards and four touchdowns while going 28-for-44.

The Cypress, Texas native has emerged through the season as struggles on offense forced the Aggies to consider breaking out the youngster early. Fisher and Texas A&M still have three games left to redeem the season. Weigman can use those experiences to strengthen his claim to start off the bat in 2023.

Fisher: Weigman has ‘IT factor’

Jimbo Fisher thinks he sees that extra spark in his young QB that will help the Aggies at the end of the season and beyond.

“I always talk about that ‘IT’ factor, right. He’s got it,” Fisher said of Weigman earlier in the season. “That’s what he does. I mean, like I say, it’s been one game, right. But at the same time, he doesn’t practice. He has a feel for the game. Like I said, I’ve been very pleased with him, and knew he was gonna play well. I’ve been proud of him, as far I knew what he was going to do and how he’s going to do it. He’s practiced that way.

“Now it’s just starting to come out more and more and more. But he feels the game, understands it.”
