Joni Taylor updates status of fan stretchered out at Texas A&M vs. Florida game

There was a scary moment during the Texas A&M Aggies women’s basketball game against the Florida Gators on Thursday when a fan in the stands needed to be stretchered out of the arena. At the time, little was known about what had apparently happened to the woman.
Following the game, Texas A&M head coach Joni Taylor shared what she knew about the incident.
“I don’t have a lot of information on that,” Joni Taylor said. “Like, I saw it as we were coming on the court — I saw the commotion and called a timeout to try to get our people over there and find out what’s going on. I don’t want to say because I don’t know for sure other than they said that she was okay. They said that they were able to put her out on a stretcher and that she was awake when they carried her out.”
Ultimately, it’s a fairly positive result that Taylor received some knowledge that the woman who was taken out on a stretcher is doing alright. At the same time, it is very little information, not even knowing the person’s age.

“But I don’t know the details, yet, of what happened… I don’t know any of that,” Taylor said.
Texas A&M would go on to lose the game 74-52. Only making one out of 12 three-point shots ended up being a major issue for the Aggies in the game. Turning the ball over 16 times didn’t help their offensive effort either. Joni Taylor would see her team follow that loss up with another loss to Mississippi State on Sunday. That’s part of what has now stretched to an eight-game losing streak.
With the losing streak, Texas A&M has fallen to 10-16 on the season and 3-11 in SEC play. That’s tied for 12th in the current conference standings. That comes in Taylor’s third season in College Station. Last season, she led the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament, bouncing back from what has been a rebuilding job for her.
Unfortunately, this hasn’t been the only scary incident lately at a women’s college basketball game. On Sunday, the game between Notre Dame and NC State was significantly delayed while the game was in overtime thanks to a medical emergency that occurred in the stands. In that incident, medical professionals could be seen giving care to a fan who appeared to be having the emergency. In total, that game was delayed around 10 minutes.
