Marcel Reed injury update: Texas A&M QB heads to tent after big hit vs. Utah State

Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed left Saturday’s game against Utah State with an injury. He took a big hit after a scrambled in the third quarter and later headed to the tent.
Reed scrambled out of the pocket on 2nd and 4 when he went to the ground. As he did, a Utah State defender hit him in his midsection, and the Texas A&M quarterback stayed on the ground as the training staff came out to evaluate him.
Reed then walked off the field under his own power, with trainers on either side. He then headed to the injury tent once he got to the sideline. As the third quarter came to a close, he jogged to the locker room alongside the training staff.
“We just saw starting quarterback Marcel Reed exit the injury tent [and] head into the locker room,” SEC Network’s Alyssa Lang said on the broadcast. “I’m told he is available, but unlikely to return in this game. He’s okay. They’re just taking him to the locker room to evaluate him one more time.”
Texas A&M backup quarterback Miles O’Neill then came in to replace Reed, though Lang noted earlier in the broadcast that may have been the case anyway. O’Neill appeared to be warming up on the sidelines prior to Reed’s injury, considering Texas A&M had a sizable 35-14 lead at the time.

“Something I was noticing before Marcel Reed went down … O’Neill was actually already, what appeared to be warming up on the sidelines so he was ready to come in,” Lang said while Reed was in the tent. “It makes me wonder if Marcel was maybe a series away from being done for the day, anyway.”
Reed had a big year at Texas A&M in 2024 after taking over for Conner Weigman at quarterback. He showcased his dual-threat ability, throwing for 1,864 yards and 15 touchdowns while adding 543 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground. The 2025 season marks Reed’s first as Texas A&M’s full-time starting quarterback.
In Texas A&M’s first game of the year last week, Reed put together a strong performance. He threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns, along with 39 rushing yards, as the Aggies took down UTSA in the season opener.
