Marcel Reed on potential NIL offers: 'I'd have to talk to my parents'

Marcel Reed is happy right where he is at Texas A&M. The quarterback just wrapped up his third season in College Station and his second as starter, helping the Aggies reach the College Football Playoff as the No. 7 seed.

There they will take on No. 10 Miami in a first-round matchup which will take place at Kyle Field. That led to an interesting hypothetical discussion for Reed when he joined Outta Pocket with RGIII, hosted by former NFL and Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III.

Griffin posed the question to Reed as to whether he would accept a $4 million offer from the Hurricanes to transfer there. The Aggies QB seemed to entertain the idea at first, but ultimately reaffirmed that he is content with his current situation.

“I’d have to talk to my parents,” Reed answered. “…I got offers after my freshman year. I thought this was the best place to be. I don’t think there’s any reason I need to leave Texas A&M. I have the job and it’s mine to lose. I don’t think I will, but there’s no reason for me to leave. I think I have a great OC, I have a great coach, I have great players around me, we have the best stadium in college football. There’s no need for me to leave and go anywhere else.”

The question from Griffin is likely referencing the fact that Carson Beck was reported to make north of $4 million after transferring from Georgia to Miami this offseason. Currently, Reed has an NIL valuation of $2.1 million, ranking him No. 13 according to On3’s NIL Top 100 rankings for college football.

Reed has cemented his place as one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in all of college football this season. He has thrown for 2,932 yards and 25 touchdowns to 10 interceptions in addition to 466 yards rushing and six scores on the ground.

He would certainly command a large NIL figure if he did opt to transfer, but he would also risk leaving an already good situation. As things stand now, the Aggies have an opportunity to compete for a national championship and he is compensated on par with some of the top talents in the entire country.

Marcel Reed will look to continue his stellar play this postseason and take Texas A&M on a deep run. Kickoff for the first-round CFP matchup against Miami is set for 12 p.m. ET on Dec. 20.
