Michigan infielder Ted Burton announces grad transfer to Texas A&M

Michigan infielder Ted Burton will play at Texas A&M in 2024 as a graduate transfer, he announced on Wednesday. Burton played four years at Michigan, mostly as a second and third basemen.
Aside from his 2020 freshman season that was cut short by Covid-19, Burton was a regular contributor and starter for the Wolverines, particularly as a junior and senior. And while the Wolverines missed the postseason this year, Burton has his fair share of postseason experience, as Michigan made regionals his sophomore and junior years.
“Thank you to the University of Michigan for the last four years filled with endless memories and lifelong relationships, forever grateful. Next chapter: Aggieland,” Burton said in his tweet announcing his transfer.
Burton has a career .285 batting average and hit .301 in 2023 with 13 home runs, 14 doubles and 45 RBI.
Burton originally committed and came to Michigan under head coach Erik Bakich, who took the Clemson head coaching job after the 2022 season ended. After one season under the new regime, Burton has gotten his degree and will play SEC ball next year with the Aggies.
Burton will add to a foundation that Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle is excited to build on
Jim Schlossnagle did not have the season that he was hoping to in Year 2 at Texas A&M.
After reaching the College World Series in 2022, the Aggies went 38-27 (14-16) this year and failed to advance past the regional round of the NCAA Tournament.

Still, Schlossnagle feels good about the future of the program. He credits upperclassmen at Texas A&M for setting a strong foundation.
“Super excited about the future of the program, because of guys like Austin [Bost] and Nathan [Dettmer] who have shown the way,” Schlossnagle said. “The way you put together a good freshman year is you have people to model. And when you can model Austin Bost or you can model Brett Minnich, you can model Trevor Werner… you don’t need to hear from the coach. You just look at someone like Austin and do what he does.”
Bost had a disappointing year at the plate, hitting .226 with five home runs and 43 RBIs, but he was a leader for the Aggies all year.
Texas A&M had other leaders who stepped up, too, despite it being a difficult season as a whole.
“So that’s what’s been such a luxury for me, really the last two years, is to have this level of leadership and character at A&M,” Schlossnagle said. “Coach [Rob] Childress is to be credited for a lot of that, to have these kind of kids here. So yea, the future’s bright.”
