Report: Texas A&M commit Ruben Dominguez receives waiver, cleared to play in 2025-26

Texas A&M commit Ruben Dominguez has received a waiver from the NCAA, TexAgs’ Luke Evangelist reported. The Spanish star guard will now have two years of eligibility.

Texas A&M announced Dominguez’s addition in June after he played with the Spanish National Team. In 2024-25, he averaged 7.6 points and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 47.3% from the floor, including 43.3% from three-point territory. All told, he played more than 150 games during his international career.

Dominguez’s addition was a high-profile one for Bucky McMillan as he takes over as Texas A&M head coach. With a waiver secured, an important piece is in place for the Aggies ahead of McMillan’s debut season in College Station.

Texas A&M went to work to completely rebuild the roster this offseason following Buzz Williams’ departure, adding 11 players from the transfer portal. The biggest name of the group is former Creighton point guard Pop Isaacs – the No. 47 overall player and No. 14-ranked point guard to enter the portal this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Texas A&M made quite a splash this offseason by hiring McMillan from Samford, where he became known for his style of play. The Aggies are sure to take on a different look than what they had under Williams, who’s now the head coach at Maryland.

In fact, the program is generating some buzz on a national level. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein predicted Texas A&M could be a “surprise” team in 2025-26 considering the additions to the roster. He said the Aggies might also put themselves in position for an NCAA Tournament appearance in McMillan’s first season as head coach.

“This might be a little of a surprise,” Rothstein said last month. “I am going with Bucky McMillan and the Texas A&M Aggies. Now, for a lot of people who aren’t familiar with Bucky McMillan, this is somebody who came from the Birmingham area… But he was the high school coach for Trendon Watford, who went to high school in the Birmingham area, then went to LSU to play for Will Wade. He then became the Samford head coach, led Samford to the NCAA Tournament. Samford almost beat Kansas in 2024. Now, he’s the Texas A&M coach.”
