Texas A&M beat South Carolina 30-17 on Saturday, and Jimbo Fisher believes his Aggies were shorted a touchdown in the win.

During the third quarter of Saturday’s game, it appeared as though Texas A&M tight end Max Wright had possession of the ball with a foot down in the end zone for a touchdown, but the pass was called incomplete.

Officials reviewed the play, with Fisher expecting the call to be overturned. Instead, it was upheld. Fisher called out the officials during his press conference this week for what he believes was a missed call.

“We scored a touchdown, which was a touchdown. I’m not going to sit here and say it isn’t,” Jimbo Fisher said.

Overall, he thought the officiating was pretty fair during the game, but the one non-touchdown call was a big one.

Instead of the Aggies taking a 28-10 lead, South Carolina stayed within striking distance at 24-10. The Gamecocks ended up scoring moments later to make it a one-score game.

“I’m going to be honest with you, I think the game was called very well. … And I can see that guy saying, ‘Hey, that’s not a touchdown.’ But when you review it, the explanation I got, the only problem I had with it is they said they couldn’t tell if the ball moved,” Fisher recalled. “Well if you couldn’t tell if the ball moved, it didn’t move. So if his foot’s down and the ball didn’t move, isn’t that a touchdown? So that’s a touchdown.”

Fisher was asked earlier this week about a lack of scoring in the second half, which led to him bringing up the call.

On the season, Texas A&M has scored 150 points in the opening two quarters and only 106 in the second half.

This past Saturday’s win over South Carolina certainly wasn’t the prettiest victory of all time, but the home win was absolutely vital to keeping the Aggies’ season alive here in the back stretch of the schedule. After dropping back to back games against Alabama and Tennessee, a home matchup vs. a 2-5 South Carolina team appeared to be the perfect antidote to solve the losing streak. As it turned out, it was.

Max Johnson threw for 250 yards as he continues to look more comfortable as the A&M starter, while his favorite target in this particular game was Ainias Smith, who hauled in six catches for 118 yards and one super-shifty touchdown run.
