Texas A&M has landed their first commitment in the 2024 class in Longview (Tex.) Pine Tree defensive lineman Dealyn Evans. Evans picked the Aggies over offers from Texas, TCU, SMU, and others.

The four-star decided to pull the trigger after being in town for the Aggies’ pool party weekend event. He becomes the third total commitment for Texas A&M so far this weekend, joining 2023 five-star linebacker Anthony Hill and 2023 Top 100 safety Dalton Brooks.

Texas A&M offered Evans on an unofficial visit in June and was able to building a strong relationship early. All it took was one more visit for Evans to feel comfortable with a commitment. The decision is also one he makes just days after visiting the University of Texas.

Heading into the visit Evans told AggieScoop that his relationship with Aggies defensive line coach Elijah Robinson was the “best relationship I have right now.”

His relationship with Robinson is a large part of his decision.

“With coach ‘E’, he’s going to keep it real on the field and he knows when it’s time for business,” he told AggieScoop’s Tim Verghese.

“[Texas A&M is just the place to be. It’s family. Today, going over my film, watching with them, going over things I can fix, I know it doesn’t like too much, but it actually meant something. And that did it for me.”

As a sophomore, Evans, who is 6-foot-4.5, 265 pounds, racked up 55 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and five sacks.

Ranking

On3 is higher on Evans than the rest of the industry, ranking him as the No. 168 overall recruit in the nation. Evans checks in as the No. 15 defensive lineman in the 2024 class, per the On3 consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Although only one commitment, Evans give Texas A&M the No. 11 best average recruit ranking in the 2024 class to date.

He has an On3 NIL Valuation of $11.3k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

Texas A&M is expected to keep the momentum going in the 2023 and 2024 classes. The Aggies are trending for a number of elite prospects.
