Former Texas A&M defensive lineman DeMarvin Leal, one of the top prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft, was recently arrested for marijuana possession on Dec. 18, 2021. He was arrested for less than two ounces, according to Damond Talbot of NFL Draft Diamonds.

The NFL recently relaxed its policies on marijuana, much to the delight of former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams, who has long been an avid proponent of marijuana. So maybe the arrest won’t affect Leal’s draft stock that much.

He’ll still likely have to answer questions about it from NFL scouts and coaches in interviews in the draft process. The former Texas A&M star will just have to see how NFL teams and personnel react to it once the draft rolls around April 28-30, 2022.

A few weeks ago, the star defensive lineman announced his intentions to declare for the 2022 NFL Draft.

“It is with heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that I am humbled to announce that I am declaring for the 2022 NFL Draft,” Leal said via Instagram.

Leal reflected on his time in College Station, saying they were some of the best in his life. He talked about Aggie culture and what he learned the most during his three years.

“The last three years at Texas A&M have been some of the best years of my life! I am truly blessed and thankful for the opportunity to attend such a prestigious university,” Leal said. “I learned what it truly means to become an Aggie because of you. Becoming a part of a culture that is second to none, has taught me the values of loyalty, honor, and pride.”

Leal went on to thank a plethora of people, including head coach Jimbo Fisher, former defensive coordinator Mike Elko, defensive ends coach Terry Price, and the Aggie football training staff.

Tipping the scales at 290 pounds, Leal racked up big numbers in 2021, 58 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks.

Texas A&M could not play in the Gator Bowl due to Covid-19 protocols.
