DeAndre Moore suffered what appeared to be an upper-body injury during Texas‘ 38-7 win over San Jose State on Saturday. Moore did not return.

Following the game, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian provided an update on the Longhorns wideout. Sarkisian did not specify the extent of his injury, or establish a timeline on his return.

“He got dinged,” Sarkisian said postgame. “I couldn’t see it from where it occurred, but he definitely got dinged and we held him (out) after that.”

Moore went to the medical tent early in the second half after having to be helped to the sideline. He was escorted to the locker room after exiting the medical tent. He finished the game with four catches for 30 yards.

He was the fourth-leading receiver on his team. Parker Livingstone was the game’s leading receiver with four catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon.

His injury is a blow to the Longhorns receiving room, especially if he has to miss extended time. The Longhorns are already without Emmett Mosley V, who transferred into the program from Stanford this offseason. He’s missed both games so far for Texas this season.

Elsewhere on the injury front, OL DJ Campbell was injured and was replaced by Connor Stroh. Campbell later returned to the game. EDGE Collin Simmons was injured in the fourth quarter and walked off the field. Despite this, he was still evaluated in the medical tent.

Running back Tre Wisner was held out of the game entirely. Sarkisian revealed that he suffered a leg injury and they didn’t want to “force the issue.”

Wisner’s injury led the way for the likes of Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark to gain some extra carries. Sarkisian said he was pleased with how it worked out despite being down in numbers. The pair combined for 49 yards on seven carries a piece on Saturday.

Texas would love to return to 100% in time for the start of SEC play against Florida on Oct. 4. However, the reality of the season is that the injury bug doesn’t play favorites.

Next up for the Longhorns is its third of four non-conference games to begin the season — a home stand against UTEP for Week 3. Kickoff is set for 4:15 p.m. ET and will air live on the SEC Network. Moore’s status for the matchup remains to be seen as of this report.
