Steve Sarkisian inked a new contract with the Texas Longhorns earlier this offseason, and the details are dropping now.

The extension was signed after Alabama’s Nick Saban decided to retire, and the Longhorns chose to reaffirm their commitment to the coach who brought them to the College Football Playoff last season.

Evidently, Saban’s retirement worked out pretty well for Sarkisian. Check out the new terms of his contract below, shared to X (formerly known as Twitter) by Inside Texas.

Moreover, Sarkisian just finished the third year of his initial six-year, $34.2 million contract. He made $5.6 million for 2023, prior to bonuses — like for winning the league and making the College Football Playoff — kicking in.

Sarkisian just piloted Texas to its most successful season in a decade, going 12-2 and winning the Big 12 on the way to a berth in the Sugar Bowl for the CFP. It was a notable step forward from his previous two seasons, a 5-7 and then 8-5 campaign. Overall, Sarkisian has gone 25-14 during his span as the head coach in Austin.

It’s easy to see what Steve Sarkisian has meant to Texas, and it’s evident he has the belief of decision makers firmly planted behind him.

Texas, Steve Sarkisian announce promotions within recruiting and player personnel staff

In other news, Texas saw its recruiting staff shake-up when Billy Glasscock left Austin in favor of Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss. Glasscock served as the director of player personnel but will now be the Rebels’ general manager moving forward. Head coach Steve Sarkisian needed to get the department back in order and did as such on Tuesday evening.

Four promotions have been announced by Texas and Sarkisian, with Brandon Harris taking over as the program’s general manager. John Michael Jones will take over what was previously Glasscock’s title as the director of player personnel.

  • Brandon Harris – General Manager
  • John Michael Jones – Dir. of Player Personnel
  • Taylor Searels – Dir. of Recruiting
  • Kyndal Perry – Dir. of Recruiting Operations

The Longhorns have been recruiting at an elite level over the past few cycles and internal promotions allow for some continuity moving forward. All focus will be on the 2025 class as Texas moves from the Big 12 and into the SEC.

Searels was the first to react via X, mentioning this will be his fourth season with Texas. She even used part of Sarkisian’s mantra, saying recruiting will be all gas, with brakes optional.

“THE TEAM!! I could not be more thrilled to head into year 4 at Texas Football with this group by my side,” Searels said. “So incredibly thankful. ALL GAS! Let’s Recruit!”
