Max Belyeu injury update: Jim Schlossnagle reveals alarming news on Texas outfielder

Texas received some unfortunate news regarding outfielder Max Belyeu. He’ll the remainder of the regular season due to surgery for an evulsion fracture in his injured thumb, according to coach Longhorns coach Jim Schlossnagle, per Kirk Bohls of the Houston Chronicle.
He was off to a blazing start in Year 1 under Schlossnagle. All hope isn’t lost for Belyeu though. The Texas manager added that the outfielder could potentially return to the lineup for the postseason, if all goes according to plan.
That would give Schlossnagle’s team a major boost. The Longhorns are currently in great shape to host a regional in the NCAA Tournament. Being a top-eight seed to have a potential Super Regional in Austin is certainly in play, as well.
There is still some time between the bracket being released and now, especially with Texas now playing in the SEC. Earning a high national seed will now have to come without Belyeu’s services.
Belyeu could have been on pace to have an even better 2025 than 2024. Hitting .329 with 18 home runs and 53 RBIs was enough to earn Big 12 Player of the Year. Thus far in SEC play, three home runs and nine RBIs have been produced by the former All-American.

Somebody else will now have to step up in the outfield to close out the regular season. This week began life without Belyeu, as Texas took on Texas State. However, Friday will be Texas’ first real test.
Georgia is coming to town for a matchup between a pair of top-three teams. Both currently have impressive records in SEC play, and first place will potentially be on the line. Schlossnagle will have to manage without one of his best hitters, hoping there is still enough firepower in the lineup.
More on the Texas Longhorns, injury woes
Losing Belyeu is massive news for the Longhorns but it’s not all negative. Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball reported some positive news as well, regarding Adrian Rodriguez and Rylan Galvan. Texas feared the worst for Rodriguez but received positive news. A huge sigh of relief comes from Austin on that front.
“There is some good news for @TexasBaseball,” Rogers said. “Adrian Rodriguez and Rylan Galvan, who have been terrific this spring, are considered day-to-day. Rodriguez was feared to have a pretty serious injury.”
