During Wednesday night’s Women’s College World Series Final opener between Texas Tech and Texas, it was revealed that Texas third baseman Mia Scott is playing through a torn ACL.

“The thing that’s so impressive about Mia Scott right now is that she’s been an absolute star and probably the MVP defensively here at the World Series,” ESPN’s Holly Rowe said. “She is doing all of this with a torn ACL. She has disclosed that it is torn, I can see that she is wearing a brace under her right knee. She didn’t care that we told the world because she’s moving so well that it does not matter.”

Normally when an athlete tears an ACL, it takes around 8 to 12 weeks after surgery to get back to normal. With her team’s historic season on the line however, Scott is opting to play on her injured right knee.

Scott, who is a career .398 hitter, is one of the most accomplished active players in college softball. She racked up the accolades in her final season, as she was named NFCA Second Team All-American, D1Softball Second Team All-American, Softball America Second Team All-American, NFCA All-Central First Team, SEC Softball All-Tournament Team and All-SEC First Team.

The Angleton, TX native has enjoyed an extremely prolific career, as she has played in and started in all 252 career games. She has played all nine positions on the field, where she has recorded 57 career doubles, 26 home runs and 181 RBI. This season, Scott dominated in the three-hole with a career-best .438 average and 18 doubles. She revealed earlier this week that she will be retiring following the College World Series Final.

Scott is currently playing in her third Women’s College World Series Final. Texas however has lost to Oklahoma in the prior two trips, so the Longhorns are hoping the third times the charm.

This season marked the seventh of the Mike White era in Austin, where the Longhorns have advanced to at least a Super Regional in all six NCAA Tournaments.
