Mike White thanks Texas softball fans, administration for support during 2024 season

The Texas softball team saw its season come to an end on Thursday night at the Women’s College World Series, falling to juggernaut Oklahoma as the Sooners won their fourth consecutive national title.
There was a lot that Texas had to try to overcome, not the least of which was a very pro-Oklahoma crowd in Oklahoma City.

Coach Mike White, though, praised the Longhorns fans that did show up and make their voices heard throughout the WCWS.
“I want to also thank Longhorn Nation, all the fans, texts, well-wishers,” White said. “Obviously coming into a hostile environment, 12,000 Oklahoma fans, it’s not easy when you’re a band of about a thousand. I really commend them for spending a lot of money, time and effort to come here to support us. It meant a lot. It was certainly great having the sendoff from the hotel this evening. Meant a lot to us, the girls, our program.”
Texas softball battled its tails off, putting together two competitive games against the nation’s best team. In the end it wasn’t quite enough.

But it was a valiant effort for the Longhorns.
It was also an effort that was possible thanks to the support of numerous people throughout the organization, from top to bottom. White made sure that didn’t go unrecognized following a loss that was tough to swallow.
“Thank you to the administration at the University of Texas,” White said. “I’m so glad I’m a part of the great winning tradition of the University of Texas. So many national championships within their program. Hopefully we’ll be the No. 1 sport in school again in the country. That’s a tremendous achievement. Thanks to our athletic director, Chris Del Conte, and Sarah Baumgartner, who is here tonight. Thank you.”
Texas softball managed to win 55 games during the 2024 campaign, a remarkable achievement. The team went 55-10 overall and put together a 23-4 mark in Big 12 play.
While Oklahoma ultimately won the national title and the Big 12 Tournament title, it was Texas that took this year’s Big 12 regular season title. And for that, the 2024 Longhorns will always be remembered.
