Late in the fourth quarter, Texas appeared to find some life on offense as Arch Manning found Parker Livingstone for the Longhorns’ first touchdown of the day against Ohio State. It wasn’t without controversy, though, after a lengthy review.

Livingstone hauled in a 32-yard touchdown pass from Manning to cut the Buckeyes lead to 14-7 with 3:28 to go in Saturday’s top-five showdown. Before the PAT, the officials took some extra time to review the score – as is the case with every scoring play – and see if Livingstone held onto the football.

Ultimately, the SEC officiating crew said the call was upheld. Texas was on the board, looking to complete a late comeback against the defending national champions.

It had been an up-and-down day for Manning up to that point. He struggled mightily against Ohio State’s vaunted defense in the first half, going just 5-of-10 passing for 26 yards. He also threw an interception in the second half of his first game as Texas’ full-time starting quarterback.

All eyes were on Manning on Saturday as he takes over at Texas after two years behind Quinn Ewers. He got off to a rocky start as he struggled against Ohio State’s talented defense. To Brady Quinn, though, the goal needed to be about getting Manning into a rhythm and perhaps find that one big play to unlock the offense in the second half.

“That’s what you have to be preaching if you’re Sark, (you’re one big play away),” Quinn said on the broadcast. “And also if you’re Arch Manning. You are only one big play out of this thing. Don’t be shocked if they don’t find a way of getting Ryan Wingo the football. He’s explosive. He’s dangerous. Ohio State know that they’ve been able to keep kind of top on him so far, but be careful in the second half.”

The Longhorns then got the ball back after Ohio State went three-and-out, setting the stage for a potential comeback effort from Arch Manning. He made another big-time throw when he found Jack Endries for a 30-yard pass, but the Buckeyes defense continued to hold strong. They got Texas to 4th-and-5 and got Manning to throw a pass short of the sticks.

That meant Julian Sayin could take a knee in victory formation, sealing a huge victory for Ohio State at The Horseshoe. The Buckeyes got the 14-7 win, taking down the No. 1 team in the nation to open the 2025 season.
