Fans who are excited for the upcoming Alabama vs Texas showdown this season have begun a petition to move the game to a safer time of day. In a petition being shared on Change.org, Texas fans are hoping to pressure Fox into moving their broadcast for the game to nighttime — as the game is reportedly scheduled for 12 p.m. ET, 11 a.m. CT.

As of yet, there is no official time for the game — the game is still listed as “To Be Determined” for the game time.

Petition to change time for Texas vs Alabama

This season, Texas is scheduled to play Alabama as non-conference opponents for the first time in the regular season since 100 years ago. The last time the storied programs met at all was in the 2010 BCS National Championship Game, where the Crimson Tide won the title over the Longhorns.

Now, with one of the most anticipated games of the season scheduled for Sep. 10 in Austin — fans are making a push to have the game played at a better time for everybody involved. The petition highlights that the game is worthy of being a primetime, evening matchup regardless of their concerns over temperature. On top of claiming that Fox scheduled the game for midday because they were concerned with ESPN eating into their viewership, the petition even calls Fox “cowards” for their scheduling choice.

More relevant to the schools and fans — the weather at noon in the heart of Texas is expected to be incredibly hot and miserable for players and fans alike.

“Fans of both programs planning to attend September’s clash of titans can expect projected highs of 97 degrees Fahrenheit in Austin,” reads the petition. “Players on the artificial turf at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium can expect field temperatures to exceed 105 degrees. Fans on the eastern half of the stadium facing west can expect the sun to be on them the entire game. Let me repeat that for emphasis. Fans facing west can expect the sun on them THE ENTIRE GAME. The sun won’t go down below the opposite grand stand until the game is over. No amount of sunscreen can protect fans of fairer complexion, and skin cancer doesn’t discriminate.”

The petition was just beginning to take off as word spread about it, already drawing 188 signatures at this time.
