The Texas Longhorns fell short in the SEC Championship Game. With that, the Longhorns weren’t able to secure a first round bye in the College Football Playoff. However, in the expanded Playoff field, the Longhorns are still going to be looking to make a deep run.

After the loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, star quarterback Quinn Ewers and defensive back Jahdae Barron highlighted why they still feel the Longhorns are built for a deep run.

“Everything we’ve been through, it started off in Spring ball and then just going into Fall camp,” Jahdae Barron said. “We built something here. It’s culture. It’s not building a relationship on the field, it’s building something off the field and just knowing what we’ve been through together. So, even when adversity strikes, you got to get back up. He always tells us, it’s how we respond. So, we just have to respond in the right fashion.”

Texas has only lost to one team this season, the Georgia Bulldogs. However, they did lose to the Bulldogs twice, including in an overtime game at the SEC Championship Game and in a regular season game that the Longhorns hosted in Austin. Besides that game, the Longhorns have been consistently one of the best teams in the country. However, an 8-4 road win over Texas A&M will also likely go down as their best win for the season.

For his part, Quinn Ewers agreed with Jahdae Barron. It’s the culture at Texas that’s going to lead the Longhorns through adversity in the College Football Playoff.

“Again, our culture is built for this,” Quinn Ewers said. “We’re built for the moments we’re going into and I have no doubt in each and every guy in that room that believes the same exact thing that I’m saying right now. I said it earlier this season. It’s 10 percent what happens, 90 percent how you react to it. I think do a good job of handling adversity.”

One major challenge that Texas now must contend with is the fact that they lose out on the bye week. Teams that made the College Football Playoff without going to their conference championship game will get a defacto bye week that the conference champions are also getting. The Longhorns, however, played in both the SEC Championship Game and the first round of the Playoff.
