Report: Troy Tulowitzki rehired at Texas as new hitting coach after Michael Earley takes A&M job

Former MLB star and Texas Longhorns assistant coach Troy Tulowitzki is being rehired by the Longhorns as the team’s new hitting coach, according to a report by Kirk Bohls of the Houston Chronicle.
Head coach Jim Schlossnagle left Texas A&M to become the head coach at Texas following the College World Series. He brought his entire staff with him. That included Michael Earley, who was set to become the Longhorns hitting coach before he was hired back to Texas A&M as the head coach. That left the Longhorns hitting coach job open again for Troy Tulowitzki.
Troy Tulowitzki has previously coached at Texas as an assistant between 2020 and 2022. In 2024, he was the Director of Player Development for the Longhorns.
For the last three seasons, Caleb Longley led the Texas offense as the hitting coach. However, amid the staff turnover, he’s now going to Texas A&M as the Aggies’ new hitting coach. He’s who Troy Tulowitzki is directly replacing after the two coached together in two of the previous three seasons.
Previously, Tulowitzki had announced previously that he would not be returning to Texas under Schlossnagle. At the time, Tulowitzki had said, “I like the college game if I do something.” It was also reported that he’d have suitors to become a coach at schools like USC.

Tulowitzki previously left the Texas program following the 2022 season. At that time, his goal was to get into consulting for college baseball and potentially get back to a high-profile coaching position within the sport.
As a player, Troy Tulowitzki got his start at Long Beach State where he played for three seasons. He was then drafted by the Colorado Rockies and broke into MLB as a player in 2006. He proved to be one of the best shortstops in baseball at times during his career, going to five All-Star games while being a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger in two different seasons each.
Along with Colorado, Tulowitzki had stops with the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. He retired following the 2019 season with a .290 batting average, a .361 on-base percentage, and a .495 slugging percentage. He has 225 career home runs and 780 career RBIs.
In his first stint with Texas, Tulowitzki was working with the Longhorns’ hitters. During that time, Texas set the program record for home runs in a single season with 128 in 2022. That same season was the second year in a row that Texas went to the College World Series.
