Stanford transfer receiver Emmett Mosley has signed with Texas, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed. He played one season with the Cardinal and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Mosley appeared in nine games this past year as a true freshman, including eight starts. He finished second on the team in receiving with 48 catches for 525 yards and six touchdowns. His performance in Week 12 against Louisville earned him ACC Rookie of the Week after he had 13 catches for 168 yards and three touchdowns.

As a high school recruit, Mosley was a three-star prospect out of Santa Margarita Catholic (CA). He ranked as the No. 598 overall player and No. 94 receiver in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Texas is coming off of a 13-3 finish this past season after advancing to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. However, the Longhorns lose their top two receivers, Matthew Golden and Isaiah Bond, to the NFL.

Mosley is the first receiver that Texas has added through the transfer portal this offseason. He ranks as the No. 86 overall player and No. 19 receiver in the portal according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Longhorns fans will hope the 6-foot-2 receiving can continue to build off of his promising true freshman season. Mosley will look to be one of the top targets for quarterback and former five-star Arch Manning, who is set to take over as the starter after playing as a backup the past two seasons.

Mosley entered the portal on April 3 after Stanford fired coach Troy Taylor on March 25. The transfer portal opens for 30 days whenever a head coach leaves their program, allowing athletes to leave and decide on their future, according to NCAA guidelines.

More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.

In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.
