Texas coach Steve Sarkisian knows there is no place for the display from Longhorns fans in the third quarter against Georgia on Saturday. Members of the crowd were seen throwing trash onto the field after a controversial pass interference call.

The call was later reversed, but it was an embarrassing display nonetheless. Sarkisian urged the crowd to calm down in the moment and continued to disapprove of the behavior in his postgame press conference.

“I understand frustration,” the coach said. “We were all frustrated in the moment. But all of us, Longhorn Nation, we can be better than that.”

Texas would go on to suffer its first loss of the season, falling by a score of 30-15. It was a day full of frustration that saw the Longhorns even bench quarterback Quinn Ewers at one point in the first half.

Texas trailed 23-0 at halftime after Ewers threw for only 17 yards and committed a pair of turnovers in the first half. The Longhorns would go back to him in the second and closed the gap a bit, but could never quite get over the early deficit.

In fact, Texas would go on to score a touchdown to make it a one-possession lead for Georgia shortly after the call that led to fans throwing trash. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs answered with a TD of its own on the ensuing drive and the Longhorns then fumbled the ball, and the game, away immediately after that.

The loss shakes up the SEC race as Texas is now one of five one loss teams in the conference standings. Texas A&M and LSU are tied for first place as the only two teams with unblemished league records.

That still leaves the possibility of a conference championship on the table for the Longhorns, but they’ll have to be on their game the rest of the way. They’ll get their first chance to rebound from the loss to Georgia next Saturday when they face Vanderbilt on the road.
