Texas coach Jim Schlossnagle made the rare move this offseason, going from Texas A&M to bitter rival Texas. And he hasn’t quite forgotten about his previous stint, apparently.

On Sunday during a regional baseball game against Kansas State, the Texas manager had to catch himself after dropping a famous Texas A&M catch phrase. It made for an awkward moment of television on the broadcast.

“Coach, we appreciate it, good luck today,” the announcer said. Then he waited for Schlossnagle to sign off.

“Thank you,” Jim Schlossnagle said. “Gig ’em. … Hook ’em.”

You can watch the gaffe below. It’s not bad but will certainly provide a laugh for both fanbases, given the nature of the comment.

Of course, Texas poaching Jim Schlossnagle from Texas A&M was no laughing matter between the two powerhouse programs. And the timing of the way it all played out last year will leave Aggies fans smarting.

They had just fallen in the College World Series to Tennessee, missing out on a national title. Then Texas came swooping in.

And in the hours before the hire went official, Schlossnagle made some comments that were certainly memorable. He went off on a reporter who asked about his name being linked to the Texas opening.

“I think it’s pretty selfish of you to ask me that question, to be honest with you,” Jim Schlossnagle said following the final College World Series game. “I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn’t changed in my mind.

“That’s unfair to talk about something like that. That would be like you asking (Braden) Montgomery if he’s going to sign in the draft. But I understand you gotta ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to come take this job and I’ve poured every ounce of my soul in this job and I’ve given this job every single ounce I can possibly give it. Write that.”

Obviously things did change for Jim Schlossnagle. He’s now in Texas, trying to help the Longhorns advance to Omaha and the College World Series.

Texas earned the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, but the Longhorns are now battling to stay alive in the Austin Regional after falling to UTSA on Saturday evening. At the time of this writing, Texas led Kansas State 11-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning of an elimination game.
