Texas completes repairs to UFCU Disch-Falk Field after storm damage, Austin Regional scare

Weather almost put the status of the Austin Regional in question, taking out the centerfield wall at UFCU Disch-Faulk Field. Just under 48 hours before play was set to begin between Texas and Houston Baptist, a huge hole in the outfield was created. Thankfully, a quick repair appears to have taken place.
Just before 5 p.m. CT, a photo was posted on social media of the reconstructed wall and batter’s eye. Athletic director Chris Del Conte originally told fans not to worry about there being any kind of delays and he seemingly has delivered on those promises.
Some work is set to be done but time remains. Nothing official has come from Texas, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. CT to get the NCAA Tournament underway. You can check out the full scene here.
KXAN reported that winds estimated up to 70 miles per hour blew through the ballpark during the severe thunderstorm. This caused the outfield wall that made up the batter’s eye to blow over, resulting in the damage that has since been shared across social media. With damage only reported as coming from the wall in centerfield, it appears that the impact of the storm won’t impact fan attendance during the weekend, either.

More on Texas baseball, Austin Regional
When Texas heard its name as one of the 16 national seeds on Sunday, there was not too big of a surprise. The Longhorns have been one of college baseball’s best in the first season under head coach Jim Schlossnagle. If anything, whether or not they earned the No. 1 overall seed was the biggest question.
No. 2 will have to do, bringing Houston Baptist to Austin alongside old Big 12 opponent Kansas State and UTSA. Texas already has experience against Houston Baptist and UTSA this season, having mixed results. Both were midweek matchups and the lone win came against Houston Baptist, 12-2 in seven innings. UTSA actually got the better of Texas in mid-March, winning 8-7 after extra innings.
So, a tougher path than perceived could be in front of Texas. As mentioned, Houston Baptist will be first up as Texas is hopeful to make the College World Series for the 39th time in program history. Ultimately, the goal is to win a national championship and break the two-decade drought, last winning it all in Omaha in 2005.
