Texas coach Steve Sarkisian revealed a very pertinent injury update ahead of a game against UTEP on Thursday afternoon. Inside Texas reported the news.

Sarkisian listed four players, including some heavy hitters, as “doubtful to out” for the contest: running back Quintrevion Wisner, receiver DeAndre Moore, receiver Emmett Mosley and defensive lineman Alex January. He went on to further elaborate.

“I don’t have concerns about long-term effects about any of them, but I think we would be putting them at risk for long-term effects if we forced them back too soon,” Sarkisian said, per Inside Texas.

Wisner is perhaps the biggest injury for the Longhorns, as he’s the team’s star in the backfield. He sat out last week’s win over San Jose State, nursing a leg injury. In his time at Texas, Wisner has logged 254 carries for 1,217 yards and six touchdowns. He’s coming off a 1,000-yard campaign during the 2024 season and was looking to build on it this fall.

Meanwhile, Moore suffered a concussion against San Jose State. He has accounted for six catches for 36 yards so far this season.

Mosley was a transfer from Stanford this offseason. He was counted on to bolster the receiving corps, but thus far has been unavailable with a lower-body injury. He recorded 48 catches for 525 yards and six touchdowns last season with the Cardinal.

Finally, January tallied three tackles in the season opener against Ohio State. He’s a key piece in the middle, having played in 11 games as a true freshman last fall. During that time, he made three tackles for Texas.

Texas fell in its season opener at Ohio State, losing 14-7 on the road. But the team bounced back nicely with a win over San Jose State in Week 2.

The next couple of weeks should provide some time to gel and build momentum, with games against UTEP and then Sam Houston. A road trip to Florida will begin SEC play after that on Oct. 4.
