Texas lands commitment from British center Lewis Obiorah

According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Texas has snagged a commitment from center Lewis Obiorah. Head coach Sean Miller will now have a developmental piece on his roster, according to Givony, landing Obiorah from overseas. A nice pickup for the Longhorns.
“NEWS: Barking Abbey’s Lewis Obiorah has committed to Texas, agent Deimantas Baziukas told ESPN,” Givony said via X. “The 7’1, 19-year old British center with a 7’5 wingspan will be a developmental piece for Sean Miller in the SEC.”
With Obiorah being described as a developmental guy, there may not be much of an expectation to play much moving forward. However, not many coaches are going to turn down somebody with those kinds of measurables. If there is going to be any payoff in this move for Miller, benefits will show somewhere down the line.
Playing in the SEC can be a different kind of beast, especially for those who are not accustomed to the college game in general. Obiorah will get his feet wet by practicing in Austin on a daily basis.
Texas is entering its first season with Miller as the head coach, coming over from Xavier. He will be the replacement of Rodney Terry, who was fired after the Longhorns lost to Miller and Xavier in the NCAA Tournament First Four.

Sean Miller reveals first interaction with Texas QB Arch Manning
Sean Miller is still settling in at Texas, taking over as the head coach. Gaining fan support will be crucial over the next few months before the season gets started in early November. Miller will have at least one big-time supporter moving forward after a recent interaction.
Walking around campus, Miller told a story of running into Arch Manning. A former basketball player himself, Manning welcomes Miller to the 40 Acres after being hired from Xavier. He was also looking for access to the Moody Center, hoping to run a few pickup games with his buddies.
“I was walking across the street last week and somebody yelled my name,” Miller said. “I turned around and it was Arch Manning. He’s a huge basketball fan and we came together. He said ‘Welcome to Texas, I’m a big basketball fan.’ He was with a couple of his friends. And he had one question for me. He said ‘Hey, do you mind if, once in a while, we sneak in and play pickup?’ And I said ‘Yeah, anytime. Just whatever you do, don’t get hurt.’”
