There is a new era in Austin, with Quinn Ewers taking over the starting quarterback role for the Texas Longhorns. Head coach Steve Sarkisian announced the Ohio State transfer won the competition over Hudson Card prior to the season opener. And now, the ball is rolling for Ewers.

Ewers wasted no time against Louisana-Monroe getting on the scoreboard, throwing his first career touchdown on Saturday. He connected with tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, who was wide open as he walked into the end zone.

It’s what should be the first of many for the former Five-Star Plus+ prospect. Texas was able to add the extra point, giving them a 14-3 lead in the first quarter.

The touchdown was also a first for Sanders. Also touted as a five-star prospect coming out of high school, the tight end spent most of last season working on special teams. He is now poised to have a breakout season in this offense as the starter. Ewers to Sanders is a connection Texas fans around the Lone Star State could get used to.

Just before Ewers was named the starter, reports began to flood in that Card would win the job. Instead, Sarkisian made his intentions known and has ridden with his redshirt freshman quarterback ever since.

Ewers got off to a rough start on the first drive, throwing an interception. However, the response was a solid one, easily moving down the field. His touchdown throw to Sanders was the cherry on top.

Coming out of high school, Ewers was ranked the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2021 class. He was the top player at both the quarterback position and in the state of Texas.
