Texas once again cashed in on the recruiting trail, landing a top-10 class in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns are already making a splash in the 2025 cycle, too.

Thanks to five commits — all of whom are four-star prospects — Texas currently has the No. 10 class in the nation — which also checks in at No. 5 in the SEC and No. 1 in The Lone Star State.

Texas Class Breakdown

The class was kicked off with a bang back in June, as Saraland (Ala.) four-star quarterback K.J. Lacey pledged to the Longhorns. The gunslinger has continued to rise in the On3 Industry Ranking and now checks in as a top-10 player at his position.

“So some of the main things that stood out to me about Texas were how much they value relationships,” Lacey told On3 upon his commitment. “What coach Sark and coach Milwee preached to me was that they don’t just offer quarterbacks because they are talented. They also want to know what type of person you are towards your teammates and peers and see if the leadership role comes to you naturally or not.

Lacey has since been flanked by four others since December. Calhoun (Ga.) four-star tight end Emaree Winston and Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie four-star defensive lineman Brandon Brown committed to UT on back-to-back days.

Texarkana (Texas) Pleasant Grove four-star athlete Lance Jackson pledged in January to add some in-state defensive flair to the pledge list in Austin. Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill four-star running back Rickey Stewart Jr. is the newest addition to the class, as the former SMU pledge committed to the Longhorns in early April.

Top Texas Offensive Commit: QB K.J. Lacey

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound Lacey has stayed strong in his commitment to the Longhorns despite other high-profile programs like Auburn and Alabama keeping in contact. He’s now the No. 73 overall prospect and No. 8 QB in the 2025 cycle.

On3’s Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons recently provided an update on the recruitment of Lacey:

“Texas quarterback commit K.J. Lacey says he has no visit plans for the spring yet. He said he is “locked in” with Texas. Alabama and Auburn are two schools that continue to have dialogue with the Longhorn commit, but he said the only place he plans to visit in the spring is Austin.”

Top Texas Defensive Commit: ATH Lance Jackson

Standing 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, Jackson is capable of playing all over the field but is likely to end up on the defensive side of the ball if he were to sign with the Longhorns. He checks in at No. 47 overall in the On3 Industry Ranking and is a top-10 player in Texas.

Jackson told On3’s Hayes Fawcett this upon his commitment to the in-state program:

“I just know they will get me to my full potential. I love the way coach Pete Kwiatkowski and coach Sark coach. Also, I think PK is just a good dude. When my brother was getting recruited by him when he was at Washington it was one of his favorite recruiters as well. I love the town of Austin and just know it’s where I want to be.”
