Robert Jennings, a 6-foot-7 power forward out of DeSoto (Texas) Alliance of Christian Athletes has committed to Texas Tech basketball for the class of 2022, he tells On3.

Jennings is the Red Raiders’ second commitment of the class, followed by four-star point guard Richard Isaacs. Texas Tech is also targeting Zach Keller, Yohan Traore, among others.

Jennings ultimately chose the Texas Tech Red Raiders over Missouri. He also received offers from Houston, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, SMU, among others.

Robert Jennings discusses his commitment to Texas Tech

Question: Why did you choose Texas Tech?

Robert Jennings: “The thing that stuck out to me the most about Texas Tech was the style of play. The biggest thing to me was how they play, what they focus on, and Texas Tech is a big school on defense. I feel that’s where my energy starts…on the defensive end. For me to go to the next level and accomplish my childhood goal, I have to go to a school that I can shine in what I do best and feel that Texas Tech is the best option for that.”

Question: What was the coaching staff’s recruiting pitch to you?

Robert Jennings: “They never really promised me anything but they promised me that if I came to Texas Tech, then they would work with me as long as I’m willing to work with them. If I have a coaching staff that’s willing to work with me, then I’ll be in the gym all night and all day.”

Question: What do you expect your role to be on the team as a freshman?

Robert Jennings: “Somebody that comes in and plays hard and plays with a high motor…rebounds..plays physical…defends…hit open shots and do what I have to do on the offensive end but I feel like my main focus will really be on the defensive end and then let that convert into the offensive end.”

Question: What are you most excited about once you step foot on campus?

Robert Jennings: “To build a bond with my teammates and to start getting better and to start working towards a national championship. My biggest excitement is now I have 24-hour gym access, so I’m ready to just get better.”
