Following a highly successful first two seasons, Texas Tech coach Grant McCasland has signed an extension with the program. His new deal will carry him through the 2030-31 season.

Texas Tech announced the news on Twitter on Monday evening. The Red Raiders did not provide any additional details, so it’s unclear if the extension was also accompanied by a raise. If so, it would be well-deserved. McCasland has been excellent through his first two seasons.

After taking the Red Raiders to the NCAA Tournament in his first season in charge in 2023-24 and winning 23 games, McCasland upped the ante in Year 2 with the program. This season, Texas Tech reached the Elite Eight.

The program was close to winning there, too, boasting a near double-digit lead over eventual national champion Florida in the final few minutes of the game. The Gators surged, though, coming from behind to advance to the Final Four at the Red Raiders’ expense.

Still, it was a 28-win season for Texas Tech and featured the first run to the Elite Eight since the program went to the national championship game in 2019. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

McCasland took the Texas Tech job ahead of the 2023-24 campaign. He was previously at North Texas, where he won a pair of postseason tournaments with the Mean Green. In his first year there, 2017-18, McCasland won the CBI after a somewhat so-so regular season. However, the success there portended greater results across the board to come.

By 2019-20, North Texas had finished first in Conference USA, though the postseason was scrapped due to COVID-19. The team would repeat the feat in 2021-22, winning 25 games and reaching the second round of the NIT. Sandwiched between those two runs was a trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2020-21, a trip that included a first-round win.

McCasland would get his squad playing at its best in his final season at North Texas. He guided the Mean Green to 31 wins, including a run to the NIT championship game, which his squad then won. That, in part, earned him the shot at Texas Tech.

And since then, everything has come up aces for the Texas Tech head man. The Red Raiders will be looking to build on that success going forward, with McCasland now sporting a lengthier contract to recruit on.
