Troy RB Damien Taylor plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal

Troy RB Damien Taylor has spent the past four seasons with the Trojans. Now, in the spring portal, he’s planning to look for a new program elsewhere.
Taylor plans to enter his name into the NCAA Transfer Portal. That news comes per On3’s Hayes Fawcett on Monday.
Taylor was headed into his senior season with the Trojans this fall. That’s after making 39 appearances the past four seasons, in the backfield and on special teams at times, for the program.
Taylor has rushed for 1,386 yards on 248 carries, good for 38.5 yards per game and 5.6 per carry, while scoring nine touchdowns in his collegiate career there. He has also caught seven passes, two of those being for additional scores, for 28 yards receiving. That includes a career-best season this past fall as a junior where Taylor put up 1,010 yards on 173 carries, good for 84.2 yards per game at 5.8 yards per carry, with seven of his touchdowns. That made him Troy’s leading rusher, with one of their program’s better all-time rushing seasons, last fall and earned him the honor on the All-Sun Belt Second Team .

Taylor, a Northport, Alabama native, played his high school football at Tuscaloosa County. He was a three-star recruit there during the 2021 cycle. He also rated as a Top-125 RB in the class and a Top-75 prospect out of the state. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He then committed to Troy amidst other mid-major interest, including other programs in the Sun Belt
This comes after 14 players departed the program by entering the portal back during the winter cycle during December. Taylor will now be one of their first to eventually enter it in the spring ahead of his final season of eligibility.
