USC may have plenty of question marks on the field in 2021 but interim head coach Donte Williams is still thinking about the future.

The Trojans extended an offer to 2024 four-star Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan wide receiver Ryan Pellum on Monday.

Pellum is considered one of the top sophomores in California, as well as one of the best 2024 wideouts in the nation.

USC needs recruiting wins in California

Following Clay Helton‘s firing last Monday, USC entered choppy waters with many of its recruits. While many reiterated their pledge to the Trojans, it didn’t stop other teams from offering some of their top guys.

On3’s National Recruiting Analyst Gerry Hamilton wrote about USC’s need to do a better job recruiting in-state players to reach its on-the-field potential.

There are 17 players in the On300 from California. Eleven of them have announced their committments and five-star CB Domani Jackson is the only to be committed to USC — although it is far from a hard commitment.

Ryan Pellum is considered one of the best prospects in California in the class of 2024. Signing him when his signing period rolls around in a few years would be a prime example of USC succeeding at in-state recruiting.

Ryan Pellum is racking up the offers

USC is Ryan Pellum’s 30th offer, and those offers have come from all over the country. Nine Pac-12 schools — including Arizona State, Oregon and Utah — have offered Pellum.

His first offer was from San Jose State before he even started his freshman year.

While he has a stack of offers, the Trojans are his only his second offer since the start of July. Penn State offered the wideout in late August.

He has also received offers from Arkansas, LSU, Florida State, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Texas and Texas A&M.

Ryan Pellum comes from a football family. He is the nephew of longtime Oregon Ducks assistant coach and current UCLA linebackers coach Don Pellum.

But UCLA has not offered Ryan Pellum.

Ryan Pellum’s older brother, Romeo, is also his head coach at Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan. Romeo was a cornerback at Washington State — which has offered Ryan — from 2007-2008 before transferring to Hampton.

Pellum makes up outstanding combination with QB Myles Jackson

Ryan Pellum will likely be paired with another big-time college recruit over the next three year in Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan teammate and 2024 quarterback Myles Jackson.

While he does not have the long list of suitors Pullum has developed, Jackson has his fair share of big-name programs following his progression.

Jackson has offers from Arizona, BYU, Nevada, Oregon State, San Jose State and Texas A&M. All six schools have also offered Pellum.
