Washington head coach Jedd Fisch revealed some unfortunate news on sophomore tight end Kade Eldridge following the Huskies’ disappointing 24-7 loss to Michigan on Saturday.

Kade Eldridge will be out for the year,” Fisch said during Monday’s press conference. “That’s the only season ender that we had.”

Eldridge spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons at USC before transferring to Washington prior to this season. The Lynden, WA native played in all seven games this season, hauling in one catch for six yards in the loss to Michigan. He also found pay dirt on a one-yard rushing touchdown in the Huskies’ 38-21 win over Colorado State on Aug. 30.

Washington opened the season with three dominant victories over Colorado State, UC Davis and Washington State before dropping its first game of the season to No. 1 Ohio State. It bounced back with wins over Maryland and Rutgers, but fell to Michigan on Saturday. A win likely would have boosted the Huskies into the AP Top 25 Rankings, but the loss instead sunk them to 5-2 on the season.

Jedd Fisch avoids answering question about being linked to head coaching openings

With high-profile coaching jobs (such as Arkansas, Florida and Penn State) coming available across the country, Fisch has been linked as a potential candidate to switch schools this offseason.

During Monday’s presser, Fisch was asked about the rumors. In short, he shut them down. However, he didn’t quite come out and say that he wasn’t going to entertain any potential offers.

“Yeah, I’m not going to address any of the coaching changes or coaching rumors or anything to that effect,” Fisch said. “I’ve learned from that that the most important thing we can do here is talk about being where our feet are.”

ESPN insider Pete Thamel linked Fisch to the Florida opening along with a couple other names. He expanded on the College GameDay Podcast.

“I think the name Jedd Fisch is going to be bandied around, too, the Washington coach,” Thamel said. “He’s a Florida grad. He was famously Howie Roseman‘s roommate for like six weeks their sophomore year. Jedd Fisch came through there, student worker under (Steve) Spurrier, not a player. And has had great success so far at Washington.”

Jedd Fisch has been a popular name in coaching circles after he helped execute a major turnaround at Arizona. He appears to be in the process of doing the same at Washington.

Fisch went from 1-11 in his first year at Arizona to 10-3 by his third year. He went 6-7 during his first season at Washington and is now 5-2, looking for a significantly better finish in his second year.
