Washington 2025 win total: Greg McElroy offers analysis of Huskies' 7.5 wins mark

It’s been an eventful couple of seasons for the Washington Huskies. In 2023, they’d play for a national championship before losing head coach Kalen DeBoer, replacing him with Jedd Fisch, moving to the Big Ten, and taking a notable step back on the field for the 2024 season. Now, they’re looking to show proof of concept under Jedd Fisch for the 2025 campaign.
As of now, Washington has seen its win total set at 7.5 games for next season. That’s a mark that analyst Greg McElroy broke down on Always College Football.
“I look at Washington, I think they’re a big question mark this year,” Greg McElroy said. “Last year, there were some positives. First year of Jedd Fisch being there. There was some turnover, there were some challenges, there were some good things that were done by the Huskies last year. They found a quarterback of the future, and I think the upside of that quarterback Demond Williams is actually quite high.”
Demond Williams played in 13 games as a freshman last season, completing 78.1 percent of his passes for 944 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 282 yards and another two touchdowns. Coming out of high school, he was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2024 who had originally committed to Jedd Fisch at Arizona.
“You look at their win total, just six wins last year. Their over-under-win total this year is 7.5. Can they get there? Let’s find some Ws first. Colorado State, UC Davis, and Purdue. All three of which are at home,” McElroy said. “All three of which must be won by the Huskies if they’re going to get to eight wins this season. You have Ls against Ohio State, at Michigan, and against Oregon. I don’t think, right now, those are games that can be won by the Washington Huskies. Like I said, if they win them, it’s a bonus, but either way, I think those are three games you can count on a difficult performance.”

That is going to, as McElroy sees it, leave half of the schedule up in the air for Washington. There, to get above 7.5 wins, the Huskies are going to need to be nearly perfect in those toss-up matchups.
“Now, you have to find some toss-ups. They have to win five of these toss-up games to get to the over. At Washington State, a game that absolutely can be won, especially on the road. At Maryland on October 4th. They can get that one as well. Either way, long trip, difficult travel, and a Maryland team that will have some weapons in early October. Rutgers at home. Illinois at home. Those will be two very physical games, couple of weeks apart. I think either one of those can potentially be won by Washington as well,” McElroy said. “Before they travel to Wisconsin on November 8th, and they host UCLA on November 22nd. So, it’s going to be tough to get there.”
Washington will open its season on August 30th against Colorado State. Big Ten play will later kick-off on September 27th against defending national champion Ohio State.
“Like I said, three games that should be winners… Then, you’ve got to win five of the aforementioned six in the toss-up games. I think that’s going to be tough sledding,” McElroy said. “Should be very tough sledding there for the Washington Huskies.”
