Tennessee OL Ayden Bussell commits to West Virginia from NCAA Transfer Portal

Former Tennessee OL Ayden Bussell was one of a handful of transfers this spring from off of Rocky Top. He’s now the latest to commit elsewhere as he’ll be heading down the country road to Morgantown.
Bussell has committed to West Virginia from the NCAA Transfer Portal. That news comes per an announcement from him on social media on Sunday.
“Country Roads take me home!” Bussell tweeted this evening. “West Virginia Lets Work!!”
Bussell spent two seasons in Knoxville. He redshirted after his first year with no games played in before appearing in three games this past fall for the Volunteers.
Bussell, a native of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, was a Top-1,000 recruit overall in high school as a three-star in the 2023 cycle. He also rated as a Top-100 IOL and a Top-25 player out of the state of Tennessee. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He would then commit to the Volunteers over several other top programs, including multiple from the Southeastern Conference, like Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Notre Dame.
Bussell was one of six transfers from the program during the spring cycle for Tennessee. He was the only one left uncommitted to this point with QB Nico Iamaleava (UCLA) as obviously the most notable while OL Larry Johnson III (Colorado), DB Jakobe Thomas (Miami), DB John Slaughter (Colorado), and DB Christian Charles (Virginia) had also chosen their next programs.

With that, Bussell rated as a decent offensive lineman in the latest update to On3’s Industry Ranking of 2025’s Top Transfer Portal Players. He was just inside the Top-150 IOLs at No. 148 in that rating.
Now, Bussell is the 18th addition in the portal just this spring for WVU. That has them at three dozen or so transfers, with just as many departures, ahead of their first season back under Rich Rodriguez.
