West Virginia drops hype video ahead of Backyard Brawl matchup with Pittsburgh
The West Virginia Mountaineers currently sit at 1-1 overall and they’re heading into their Week 3 matchup that means a little bit more, the Backyard Brawl with the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Mountaineers came up just short in last year’s version of the matchup, 38-31. West Virginia is hoping to get some revenge this weekend.
Check out the video below.
In their first game, the Mountaineers struggled against a very good Penn State team, 38-15. Then, last week, they rebounded with a 56-17 win over Duquesne. West Virginia had to deal with a number of extensive weather delays in the Duquesne game, due to lightning. There were several games across the country on Saturday that were delayed due to bad weather.
They were expected to steamroll the Dukes and they did just that, rolling up over 300 yards passing and over 300 yards rushing. Running back Jaheim White had a big day, with 12 carries for 110 rushing yards and one touchdown.
West Virginia had a number of impressive performances
West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene completed 10 of 18 passes for 240 yards, while tossing in four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Receiver Hudson Clement hauled in five catches for 177 receiving yards and three touchdowns. It was the collegiate debut performance for Clement. After the game, the performance impressed head coach Neal Brown so much that he put him on scholarship.

Running back C.J. Donaldson also had 13 carries for 56 yards in the win.
WVU had two interceptions on Saturday night, one from Avery Wilcox and one from Beanie Bishop, Jr. Duquesne had a decent performance from quarterback Darius Perrantes, the brother of former UVA basketball star London Perrantes. Perrantes completed 14 of 31 passes for 220 yards, while tossing two touchdowns with two interceptions.
The Mountaineers rolled up 619 total yards of offense in the blowout. That included a balanced offensive attack in which they piled up over 300 yards through the air and on the ground.
With the win, WVU moved to 1-1 overall on the 2023 campaign.
