The Women’s College World Series field was offically set on Sunday and the SEC was historically represented. Five teams from the conference — Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Tennessee and Ole Miss — are headed to Oklahoma City to compete for a national title.

According to the SEC Network, that is tied for the most teams from one conference to make the WCWS in its history. It makes up more than half of the eight-team field, with the Big Ten claiming two teams (Oregon, UCLA) and the Big 12 one (Texas Tech).

This is the first season in the SEC for both Oklahoma and Texas, which were previously in the Big 12. The Sooners are coming off of their fourth straight national title and have made nine straight WCWS appearances. They got in the field after beating another SEC team, Alabama, in Super Regional action.

The Longhorns finished runner up against OU in both 2022 and 2024 and are making their eighth WCWS appearance in program history. Its safe to say the addition of those two schools has made the SEC a much stronger softball conference than it already was.

Ole Miss is perhaps the best story from the conference, though, as the Rebels are making their first appearance in program history. They got there on the backs of a strong closing performance in Game 3 against Arkansas from pitcher Aliyah Binford, who allowed only two hits in the final 5.2 innings of a 7-4 win.

Florida and Tennessee are no strangers to the WCWS either with a combined 22 appearances between them. The Gators repeated as back-to-back champions in 2014 and 2015 but the Vols have never won the title.

The number of teams that the SEC sent to OKC should be no surprise as the conference already set the NCAA record with 14 of its 15 teams (Vanderbilt doesn’t play softball) making the tournament field. Of those 14, eight advanced to Super Regionals with a number of them being matched up against each other.

With five now remaining, the SEC has the best chance of any conference to boast the winner of the national championship. We’ll see how it all plays out when the 2025 Women’s College World Series is set to begin on Thursday with a matchup between Texas and Florida at 12 p.m. ET.
