Davis (Utah) QB Tradon Bessinger sets school single-game passing record

Davis (Utah) quarterback Tradon Bessinger entered his senior season as one of the best kept secrets on a national scale. That’s no longer the case as he continues to shred opposing defenses, putting up absurd numbers.
Last Friday, Bessinger put up a record-breaking performance. In a 54-22 victory over Syracuse, the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder threw for 504 yards and five touchdowns. He became the first Davis player to ever surpass 500 passing yards in a game.
It’s just another notch in the belt for the Boise State commit, who very well could lead the entire nation in passing yards at season’s end. He’s now nearing 2,800 passing yards and is up to 35 touchdowns through the air this fall.
The numbers are far from empty, too, as he’s leading Davis to an impressive season. The Darts are now 6-1 and rank as the No. 5 team in Utah, according to the Massey Ratings. With two top-25 matchups left on the regular-season schedule, Davis is gunning for a monster campaign and is looking to make some noise in the postseason.
“It’s been a fun one,” Bessinger told Rivals’ Adam Gorney earlier this month. “It’s our senior year and I’ve started for three years so I have chemistry with these players. One of my receivers I’ve played with my whole entire life and then we’ve all been playing for a lot of years.”
In reality, Bessinger has been dominant for a while. He lit up the Beehive State as a junior last fall, finishing with 3,674 passing yards, 46 total touchdowns and just five interceptions, guiding Davis to an eight-win season.
Boise State notched his commitment in May and is looking to fend off other suitors down the stretch before signing day. He’s added BYU and Minnesota offers since committing, but has not focused on his recruitment much since his season began.

The updated Rivals300 rankings were released earlier this month and Bessinger entered the picture in a big way. After not being ranked in the previous summer update, he jolted up to No. 153 overall and was tabbed the No. 13 QB in the cycle.
“I think he’s showing more athleticism. This is a guy who’s a very skilled passer, can attack all areas of the field, is accurate with a loose arm and quick trigger,” Rivals Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said of Bessinger this fall. “He can really throw tight-window passes over the middle of the field, high-difficulty throws that you don’t often see a lot of high school QBs make. He’s an advanced, skilled passer.”
Bessinger and Davis now play two consecutive games on the road, first heading to Farmington (3-4) this Friday, then Layton (2-5) on Oct. 9. The Darts close the regular season at home against Weber (4-3). The Massey Ratings favor Davis in all three matchups. All eyes will be on Bessinger.
