The 2025 Mississippi high school football season is over and new state champions have been crowned. With the offseason looming, here’s how Massey ranked Mississippi’s best squads this year one final time.

The Massey Ratings system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, the strength of their schedule, and the margin of victory.

1. Tupelo Golden Wave

The Golden Wave remained at the top of the Mississippi high school football rankings despite losing the Class 7A state championship game to Gulfport 21-20. Despite the defeat, Jaeden Hill was stellar, finishing with 133 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Devontray Brewer led the Tupelo defense with six tackles, including a sack.

Tupelo closed the 2025 season with a 13-2 record, suffering their other loss to West Point. With their schedule completed, the Golden Wave will part ways with Hill (Mississippi State), CB Braylen Williams (Ole Miss), CB Iverson McCoy (Ole Miss), and four-star DL JaReylan McCoy (Florida).

2. Gulfport Admirals

After starting the season at 1-2, the Admirals finished at the top by edging Tupelo in the Class 7A state championship game. Parker Nettles completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Mylan Stubbs to tie the count at 20. Carter Platt added the extra point as time expired for the victory.

Mississippi State-bound Cooper Crosby led the Gulfport offense with 167 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Javious Hales had 106 receiving yards, while Deandre Williams tallied 11 defensive tackles. In addition to the championship, the Admirals closed the season with an 11-game winning streak.

3. Oxford Chargers

The Chargers’ 2025 Mississippi high school football season ended with a one-point loss to Tupelo in the Class 7A state semifinals. With their schedule closing at 11-2, Oxford will say goodbye to graduating seniors S Collin Flanigan (Vanderbilt), OT Elliott Chaney (South Alabama), and CB Kingston Gregory. Likewise, incoming sophomore quarterback Knox Kiffin might also transfer schools after his father, Lane Kiffin, accepted the head coaching role at LSU.

4. West Point Green Wave

The Green Wave saw their 22-game winning streak snapped by Brookhaven in the Class 5A state championship game. While West Point owned a 19-10 halftime advantage, the Panthers scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to claim the title. Quintin Thompson had 104 rushing yards, while Ja’Michael Strong added 57 receiving yards and a TD catch. On defense, Damarvion Haughton tallied seven tackles, including a sack. The Green Wave closed their triumphant campaign with an 11-3 record.

5. Brandon Bulldogs

Losing to Gulfport in the Mississippi high school football Class 7A state semifinals ended the Bulldogs’ season at 7-6. That’s a regression from the 12-2 record in 2024. Moving forward, Brandon won’t have college-bound players CB Preston Ashley (Colorado), LB Ashton Moore (Arkansas State), IOL Aydan Newell, and S Lahare Bolls
