Florida High School Football: Mandarin edges St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.- Needing just one win to close the book on the regular season with an undefeated record, No. 7 St. Augustine would need to hold off Class 6A state title contender Mandarin on Thursday night.
Coming down to the final minutes of the game, the Mustangs would receive a 23-yard go-ahead touchdown run from Shaunqueze Foster as they spoiled the Yellow Jackets’ hopes of a unbeaten season in a 27-21 win at Foots Brumley Stadium.
Both teams came blow for blow throughout the night, which towards the end got pretty chippy between the two Northeast Florida powerhouses.
Though all of the attention by St. Augustine’s secondary was given to 2028 four-star wide receiver Brysen Wright (four catches, 73 yards), it would be his teammate, Tian Wyche, shining brightest on the dais. Wyche finished the night hauling in four passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns.
It was Foster who broke the ice on the scoring, going right up the middle of the Yellow Jackets’ defense on a 7-yard run and a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
St. Augustine (9-1) would answer later in the period when Nate Preston bullied his way through to tie the game up at 7-all. Just a few minutes later, Mandarin (9-1) would reclaim the lead when Knox Annis connected with Wyche on a short screen pass that the wide receiver took 48 yards to the endzone, giving the Mustangs a 14-7 lead.
