Georgia High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Aug. 18

Georgia kicked off the 2025 high school football season last week, as many of the top programs in the Peach State were in action — despite the best efforts of Mother Nature. Plenty of interesting results followed. Buford and Grayson each won key matchups with heavy rankings implications, while top-five programs Carrollton, Lee County and Langston Hughes also opened their respective campaigns 1-0.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 teams in Georgia, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Aug. 18.
1. Buford Wolves (1-0)
The Wolves opened their new $62-million stadium in style on Thursday with a nationally-televised win over No. 6 Milton. Buford‘s defense was ferocious, picking off Eagles quarterback Derrick Baker twice and returning one for a score. Nebraska quarterback commit Dayton Raiola was solid in the opener, throwing for 136 yards and adding 30 more on the ground.
2. Grayson Rams (1-0)
The Rams had one of the most dominant wins in the state on Friday, routing a Collins Hill team that checked in at No. 12 in our preseason Georgia high school football rankings. Grayson played nearly mistake-free and was quick to take advantage of the Eagles’ many miscues. North Carolina quarterback commit Travis Burgess battled wet conditions for most of the game but still accounted for 229 yards of offense and four total touchdowns.
3. Carrollton Trojans (1-0)
The Trojans took care of business on Friday against an overmatched Woodward Academy team. Carrollton shouldn’t be tested next week against Columbia, but there will be tougher tests ahead. Freshman quarterback CJ Cypher got his Georgia high school football career off to a nice start, passing for 118 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
4. Lee County Trojans (1-0)
The Trojans’ offense, ranked No. 1 in the state by Massey, got off to a slow start against Warner Robins but eventually kicked things into gear in a 45-7 romp. Lee County has won 12-straight regular season games and will look to extend that further next week against a Hapeville Charter team that was idle this week.
5. Langston Hughes Panthers (1-0)
The Class 5A runner-ups from a year ago found themselves in a back-and-forth affair against Westlake and the game was far more competitive than the 46-21 final score would indicate. Langston Hughes led 19-14 late in the game but a 49-yard run from FIU commit Quantavius Wiggins sparked a 27-point fourth quarter for the Panthers.
6. Milton Eagles (0-1)
The Eagles saw their 25-game winning streak snapped against Buford on Thursday. Self-inflicted wounds were the difference for Milton, as the Wolves were able to take advantage of a pair of third-quarter interceptions from quarterback Derrick Baker. The St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.) transfer accounted for 121 yards of offense and showed he wasn’t afraid to fight for tough yards on the ground. The loss dropped the Eagles down three spots in the Georgia high school football rankings.
7. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets (1-0)
The Yellow Jackets jumped on Monroe early and had the game put away by halftime. Wake Forest running back commit Christian Lawrence started the night off with a bruising touchdown run. Four-star junior receiver Jabari Watkins also had a big game with two receiving touchdowns. Next week will be big, as Thomas County Central will look to defeat rival Cairo, and keep the Barnett’s Creek Bucket, for a fourth-straight season.

8. Douglas County Tigers (1-0)
The good news is the Tigers capped off last week’s Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic with a 21-7 victory over North Gwinnett. The bad news is that starting quarterback Michael Johnson, a three-star committed to Utah, left the game with an injury in the first half and did not return. Douglas County can’t afford for Johnson to miss much time as games against Newton, Langston Hughes and Buford – all teams in the top-25 of the Georgia high school football rankings – are coming up in the next few weeks.
9. North Oconee Titans (1-0)
The Titans shut-out rival Oconee County and won their fourth-straight Hog Mountain Bowl on Friday. Senior running back JT Doster scored three first-half touchdowns, while Georgia State quarterback pledge Harrison Faulkner accounted for three scores as well. Kentucky wide receiver commit Dallas Dickerson also made the highlight-reel with a 46-yard touchdown reception in the second half. Next up for North Oconee is a home date against Dalton.
10. Colquitt County Packers (1-0)
Few games in Georgia were more entertaining than Colquitt County‘s 27-24 win over Benedictine Military School on Friday night. The two teams went back-and-forth but the Packers walked it off with a 37-yard field goal as time expired. Colquitt County played most of the game without star running back Jae Lamar, a Georgia commit, after he sustained a thigh injury in the first quarter.
