Hawaii High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Oct. 15

Only one undefeated team is left in the Hawaii On3 Massey Ratings top 25 list as of Oct. 15. Rightfully, that squad occupies the summit of Hawaii high school football after staying in the top three for a while. Here’s where Hawaii high school football’s top teams are ranked after October’s second week of action.

The On3 Massey Ratings, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, strength of schedule, and margin of victory. According to the model, three teams from Hawaii rank in the top 100 nationwide.

1. James Campbell

The Sabers took the top spot by remaining undefeated after seven games. They dominated Waipahu 55-18, marking the fourth time they’ve scored at least 50 points in a game this season. That count and their 50.2 points-per-game average makes them Hawaii high school football’s top-ranked offense. The 75th-best squad in the nation will take on Kahuku to close out the regular season.

2. Mililani

The Trojans conceded the top spot after James Campbell convincingly defeated them. However, they bounced back with an overtime win over eighth-ranked Farrington 20-14. Tyler Dacoscos completed two touchdown passes that kept Mililani in the game. After rediscovering their winning form, the Trojans will try to maintain the momentum when they face Kapolei.

3. Kahuku

Despite having three losses, the Red Raiders still had a successful 2024 season. After all, their losses came against top-ranked teams in Nevada and California, plus second-ranked Mililani on the road. However, they are doing fine after consecutive victories against Waipahu and Kapolei. Their defense, top-ranked in the state, will come in handy in their regular-season finale against No. 1 James Campbell.

4. St. Louis

The Crusaders are experiencing a rough patch in their season after dropping back-to-back games against Kamehameha and Iolani School. Their last match wasn’t even close, as the Iolani Raiders used their home-field advantage to defeat St. Louis by 35 points. Putting up a fantastic fight against Punahou should be a nice finish for the Crusaders’ season.

5. Punahou

After back-to-back losses, Punahou is back in the win column after defeating sixth-ranked Kamehameha Kapalama 25-13. While it’s only their third victory this season, Massey Ratings has the Buff ‘n Blue as the third-best defense in Hawaii high school football. Punahou will close the regular season against St. Louis on Oct. 19.

6. Kamehameha

While the Warriors are coming off back-to-back losses, they still had a relatively successful season despite having the second most challenging strength of schedule. They’ve won five games, beating Leilehua, Warren, Waipahu, Punahou, and St. Louis. Kamehameha closes its campaign with the state’s sixth-best offense and seventh-best defense.

7. Kapolei

The Hurricanes suffered their second defeat, falling to Kahuku 17-7. They could have been shut out without a touchdown pass from Leysen Rodrigues to Nikko Smith in the final minute of regulation. Despite the defeat, they are still sixth on defense and seventh on offense. Kapolei will close out the regular season against second-ranked Mililani on the 19th.

8. Farrington

While the Governors have dropped five consecutive games, they fought well against Mililani. Farrington overhauled a 14-point deficit courtesy of Chansen Liulama-Smith’s 80-yard rushing touchdown and Lauititi Liufau’s eight-yard rushing score. Unfortunately, they couldn’t stop the Trojans from scoring the winning touchdown in overtime. The Governors will look to finish their campaign on a high note against Waipahu on the 18th.

9. Konawaena

The Wildcats have completely transformed their season after losing two of their first three games. Since then, they’ve won six straight games while giving up only six points. Konawaena had five shutout victories over that stretch, including their recent victory against Waiakea 68-0. Can they generate another victory while keeping Kea’au off the scoreboard during their Oct. 25 encounter?

10. Waipahu

After winning two of their first three games, the Marauders have dropped five straight matches against their fellow top-ten teams. Over that stretch, they’ve lost to Kamehameha, Mililani, Kapolei, Kahuku, and James Campbell. They can finish their season with a victory over Farrington.
