The high school football season continued in Mississippi last week, as many of the top programs in the Magnolia State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.

Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Mississippi high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 23.

1. Tupelo Golden Wave

The defending Mississippi high school football Class 7A state champions remain perfect in 2025. The Golden Wave improved to 4-0 after defeating Oxford 20-13. Kylan Bobo humiliated the Chargers defense with 217 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, quarterback Jaeden Hill added 108 rushing yards. On defense, Devontray Brewer is a monster, tallying 14 total tackles, including one sack. Tupelo can extend their winning streak to 19 games if they beat West Point on September 26.

2. Starkville Yellowjackets

The Yellowjackets have secured back-to-back victories after their 36-16 performance against Louisville. Kingston Johnson had an all-around game with 121 passing yards, 42 rushing yards, and three touchdowns (two rushing). Chaden Walker caught Johnson’s lone touchdown pass, while Torian Knox added a rushing TD. Likewise, the Starkville defense generated 11 tackles for losses, two sacks, and an interception. Next on the Yellowjackets’ schedule is a September 26 road game against Brandon.

3. Brandon Bulldogs

The Bulldogs remain in the Mississippi top ten despite a humiliating loss against Alabama’s Clay-Chalkville. Coincidentally, they averaged 15 points in their two defeats and 15.5 in their two victories. Brandon can right the ship if they can defeat Starkville on the 26th.

4. Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots

The Patriots have won four straight Mississippi high school football games following their 49-21 domination of Jackson Prep. Quarterback Samuel Stockett was impressive, finishing with 312 passing yards and three touchdowns. Wideout Case Thomas benefitted from Stockett’s game, tallying 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Michael McCrory (105 rushing yards, one touchdown) and Colson O’Cain (98 yards, one TD) powered Madison-Ridgeland Academy’s run game. The Patriots can improve to 5-1 if they can defeat Jackson Academy on the 26th.

5. Ocean Springs Greyhounds

The Greyhounds are now at 4-0 following their 56-42 victory over Picayune. Ocean Springs’ offense fired from all cylinders. Quarterback Chalmers Berglind threw for 326 passing yards and four touchdowns, while Sharroid Whitehead had two catches for 131 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Lanny Waltman (126 rushing yards, two touchdowns) and Solomon Baggett (108 yards, two TDs) powered the Greyhounds’ ground game. Ocean Springs will face Biloxi on September 26.

6. Grenada Chargers

The Chargers scored a season-low 21 points against Cleveland Central. However, despite the limited production, it was still enough to defeat the Wolves, keeping them undefeated through four games. Grenada can improve to 5-0 if they defeat Oxford on the 26th.

7. Clinton Arrows

After scoring only nine points against Brandon, the Arrows pulled off a 27-20 victory over Pearl. This victory improved Clinton’s record to 3-1 and is one win away from matching their win total from the 2024 Mississippi high school football season. They can get win number four against Petal on September 26.

8. Oak Grove Warriors

The Warriors have found their footing after losing their first two games. This time, they’ve won two in a row after a 36-7 domination of Neville. Kellen Hall threw for 162 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Roman Causey had 134 rushing yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Chavel Williams added 57 receiving yards and a touchdown. Oak Grove can extend their winning streak to three games with a win against Laurel on September 26.

9. Oxford Chargers

The Chargers suffered their first setback this season, falling to Tupelo 20-13. Despite the loss, some Oxford players deserve credit. Drew Dean threw for 124 yards and a touchdown, while Jamarion Pegues had 50 rushing yards and a TD. Kingston Gregory added 63 receiving yards and a touchdown. The Chargers can bounce back by scoring a victory against Grenada on the 26th.

10. Warren Central Vikings

The Vikings extended their winning streak to three games after beating Vicksburg 34-15. Nash Morgan had a field day, rushing for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Morgan also connected on a touchdown pass with Blake Caruthers. Meanwhile, Javid Scott and Xavier Jackson each had a rushing TD. Warren Central’s 2025 Mississippi high school football season continues with a September 26 road game against Madison Central.
