The 2025 Mississippi high school football season is nearing its conclusion, as some of the state’s best teams will compete for state championships. Before the big games arrive, here’s how Massey rated the elite squads from the Hospitality State.

The Massey Ratings system, officially used during the BCS era, is a model that ranks sports teams by analyzing game outcomes, the strength of their schedule, and the margin of victory.

1. Tupelo Golden Wave

The Golden Wave advances to the Mississippi high school football Class 7A state championship game after a nail-biting 21-20 victory over Oxford. Jaeden Hill rushed for 172 yards and a touchdown, while Kylan Bobo added 102 rushing yards and two TDs. Tupelo will play Gulfport for the title on December 6.

2. West Point Green Wave

The Green Wave kept its perfect season intact after defeating Holmes County Central in the Class 5A semifinals. Quentin Thompson threw a touchdown pass and rushed for 148 yards. West Point will compete against Brookhaven for the championship on December 4.

3. Oxford Chargers

The Chargers’ 2025 Mississippi high school football season ended after a heartbreaking loss to Tupelo in the Class 7A semifinals. Oxford finishes with an 11-2 record and might lose quarterback Knox Kiffin, who could transfer as his father is set to become LSU’s head football coach.

4. Gulfport Admirals

The Admirals improved to 11-2 after dominating Brandon in the Class 7A state semifinals. Parker Nettles finished with 228 passing yards and a touchdown, while Cooper Crosby dominated the Bulldogs’ defense with 188 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Lawrence Robinson tallied six tackles for losses, including three sacks. Gulfport will face Tupelo for the championship on December 6.

5. Brandon Bulldogs

The Bulldogs’ 2025 Mississippi high school football season ended disappointingly, scoring only seven points against Gulfport. Brandon closes their campaign at 7-6, a regression from their 12-2 mark in 2024.
