Mississippi High School Football Rankings: Top 25 Teams - Sept. 29

The high school football season continued in Mississippi last week, as many of the top programs in the Magnolia State were in action. Plenty of interesting results followed.
Another jam-packed slate is on deck as teams continue their quests for a state title. Below are the top 25 Mississippi high school football teams, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 29.
1. Starkville Yellowjackets
The Yellowjackets became the best team in Mississippi high school football after defeating Brandon 22-14. That victory extended Starkville’s win streak after losing to West Point to three games. Kingston Johnson finished with 158 passing yards, 58 rushing yards, and two touchdowns. Latrent Agnew and Philip Swann scored on receiving touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Starkville defense generated 18 tackles for losses (including four sacks). The Yellowjackets will proceed to an October 10 road game against Germantown.
2. Tupelo Golden Wave
The Golden Wave dropped from the top spot after a 28-21 loss to West Point. Despite that defeat, some Tupelo players deserve recognition. Kylan Bobo finished with 115 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while Jaeden Hill registered 122 rushing yards. The Golden Wave can bounce back by defeating Harfield Academy on October 3.
3. Ocean Springs Greyhounds
The Greyhounds remain undefeated through five games. In their 31-6 victory against Biloxi, Solomon Baggett rushed for 127 yards, while Chalmers Berglind threw for 143 passing yards and a touchdown. Lanny Waltman contributed 72 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Ocean Springs can improve to 6-0 if they can beat Gulfport on October 3.
4. Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots
The fourth-best team in Mississippi high school football are on a five-game winning streak after defeating Jackson Academy 35-24. Samuel Stockett threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns, while Case Thomas had 133 receiving yards. Colston O’Cain had two rushing TDs, and Jack Poole added one. Madison-Ridgeland Academy can improve to 6-1 with a victory against Louisiana’s Baton Rouge Catholic on October 3.
5. Brandon Bulldogs
The Bulldogs dropped to number five after back-to-back losses to Clay-Chalkville and Starkville. Brandon can bounce back and improve to .500 with a win against Northwest Rankin on October 3.
6. Oak Grove Warriors
In their best performance this season, the Warriors limited Laurel to three points. Kellen Hall finished with 250 passing yards and four touchdowns, while KJ Roberts gathered 60 receiving yards and a TD. Meanwhile, Roman Causey had an all-around game, dropping 100 rushing yards, 93 receiving yards, and two touchdowns. Oak Grove returns to action against Houston on October 3.

7. West Point Green Wave
The Green Wave improved to 4-0 to begin the 2025 Mississippi high school football season after defeating Tupelo 28-21. The West Point defense had six tackles for losses, including two sacks. The Green Wave will battle against Callaway on October 3.
8. Oxford Chargers
After losing to Tupelo, the Chargers bounced back by defeating Grenada 35-17. Oxford pulled away by scoring 28 second-half points. Drew Dean threw for 236 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Demar Jamerson rushed for 148 yards and two TDs. Kingston Gregory also had a couple of touchdown catches, while DJ Stribling added 89 receiving yards and a TD. The Chargers will go on the road against Madison Central on October 3.
9. Grenada Chargers
The Chargers suffered their first loss in the season against Oxford. Grenada can get back on track with a win over Center Hill on October 10.
10. Madison Central Jaguars
The Jaguars earned back-to-back victories after defeating Warren Central 32-24. Tripp Smith finished with 277 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Tylan Hutchins contributed 133 receiving yards and two TDs. Meanwhile, the Madison Central defense had nine tackles for losses (including five sacks) and an interception. The Jaguars’ 2025 Mississippi high school football season will continue against Oxford on October 3.
