Game of the Week AFI

The national high school football scene has another great slate of games on tap as the regular season continues to wrap up around the country and the playoffs begin.

There’s a number of solid matchups from Arizona to Ohio to New Jersey and down Alabama. Here’s a look at the 10 biggest national high school football games you won’t want to miss from Nov. 6-Nov. 8.

Summer Creek (TX) at North Shore (TX)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Turner Stadium, Houston, Texas

The Lone Star State’s top matchup of the weekend is when Summer Creek (8-1) travels to North Shore (8-1) in a Texas Top 25 tilt. North Shore has faired just fine in the post-Kaleb Bailey era as three-star Kaleb Maryland has been solid behind center for the Mustangs, throwing for 2,297 yards and 25 touchdowns. Summer Creek’s offense is powered by the play of junior four-star wide receiver Benny Easter Jr., who has caught 63 passes for 817 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Massey Prediction: North Shore 44, Summer Creek 27

Hoover (Ala.) at Phenix City Central (Ala.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. ET
Where: Garrett–Harrison Stadium, Phenix City, Ala.

Arguably the best game in the country taking place on Friday night is when the Hoover Buccaneers head over to Phenix City to take on the Central Red Devils (9-1) in what should be a doozy for Alabama’s Class 7A. Hoover (6-4) will need its offense to get jumpstarted by signal caller Kaleb Freeman, who has amassed 2,047 yards through the air and 15 scores. The Buccaneers take on a Red Devils team that features quarterback Bobby Coleman, who has thrown for 2,274 yards and 26 touchdowns this season.

Massey Prediction: Phenix City Central 38, Hoover 28

Bryant (AR) at Conway (AR)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Centennial Bank Field at John McConnell Stadium, Conway, Arkansas

Not many times, maybe ever, this season have we listed a game out of Arkansas for a nationally recognized contest. Here, we definitely make the exception as the undefeated Bryant Hornets (9-0) make their way over to face Conway Wampus Cats (8-1) for a regular season finale. The Hornets haven’t really been challenged this season, with their closest decision being a 31-14 win over Newton of Georgia. The Wampus Cats will look to hand the Hornets their first loss behind the play of two-way standout Tay Lockett (Arkansas commit).

Massey Prediction: Bryant 42, Conway 26

St. Augustine (La.) at John Curtis (La.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m. ET
Where: Shrine on Airline, Metairie, La.

Two teams that have in the last few weeks both lost to nationally ranked Edna Karr meet in NOLA on Friday night between St. Augustine (8-1) and John Curtis (7-1). The Patriots will face their next toughest in-state challenge to date after losing to Edna Karr last week, 48-26. The Purple Knights, which lost to Edna Karr 42-21 back on Oct. 3, through eight games have looked near unstoppable on offense, averaging a ridiculous 44.5 points per game. St. Augustine features a couple Division I prospects at wide receiver in junior four-star Miguel Whitley (35 catches, 655 yards) and three-star Ray’Quan Williams (26 catches, 562 yards).

Massey Prediction: St. Augustine 35, John Curtis 30

Vestavia Hills (Ala.) at Auburn (Ala.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. ET
Where: Duck Samford Stadium, Auburn, Ala.

The AHSAA Class 7A high school football playoffs begin in the Yellowhammer State this weekend and one of the top matchups pit Auburn (8-2) and Vestavia Hills (8-2). There’s plenty to like about this matchup as both teams are ranked within the Top 25 of the latest Alabama Top 25 high school football rankings via Massey. Vestavia Hills closed out the season with a dominant 40-13 win over Montgomery Catholic Preparatory while Auburn beat Dothan on the road, 39-26. Four-star junior quarterback Cason Myers has been solid this season for the Tigers, throwing for 1,878 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Massey Prediction: Vestavia Hills 27, Auburn 22

American Fork (Utah) at Skyridge (Utah)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 9 p.m. ET
Where: The Nest, Lehi, Utah

With the way Utah high school football has been this season, there’s no telling what could happen in this UHSAA Class 6A quarterfinal matchup between Skyridge (9-2) and American Fork (7-4). The first meeting between these two teams went to Skyridge, 26-14. The Falcons features one of the state’s best passers in three-star Kaneal Sweetwyne, who has been terrific throwing the rock this fall. Sweetwyne has thrown for 2,538 yards and 28 touchdowns through 11 games for Skyridge. American Fork has a balanced offensive attack, led by senior tailback Prince Afu, who has rushed for nearly 890 yards and nine touchdowns.

Massey Prediction: Skyridge 41, American Fork 20

Hamilton (Ariz.) at Chandler (Ariz.)

When: Friday, Nov. 7, 10 p.m. ET
Where: Austin Field, Chandler, Arizona

The game to be at today down in the Grand Canyon State is when Arizona’s No. 1 and 5 teams square off on Friday night. Hamilton (9-0) has looked nearly unstoppable offensively by one of the top Class of 2028 wide receivers in four-star talent Roye Oliver, who has hauled in 62 passes for 1,400 yards and 25 touchdowns. Chandler (8-1) lost their only game back in Week 2 of the season against Cathedral Catholic, but has reeled off seven straight victories. The Wolves have received strong play from junior three-star quarterback Will Mencl, who has thrown for 2,971 yards and 28 touchdowns this fall.

Massey Prediction: Hamilton 42, Chandler 21

St. Thomas More (Conn.) at Hun School (N.J.)

When: Saturday, Nov. 8, 1 p.m. ET
Where: The Hun School Athletic Complex, Princeton, N.J.

Hun School (7-3) took one on the chin in last week’s 31-13 loss to IMG Academy, but will look to bounce back this week against a St. Thomas More of Connecticut team that hasn’t played since Oct. 24. The Raiders soundly defeated The First Academy (Fla.), 31-14, a couple weeks ago and are led by three-star sophomore quarterback Lukas Prock, who has thrown for 3,829 yards and 36 touchdowns. The Chancellors are the No. 1 ranked team out of Connecticut, via the Massey Ratings, while Hun School is amongst the Top 5 in New Jersey.

Massey Prediction: Hun School 36, St. Thomas More 12

St. John’s College (D.C.) at Gonzaga (D.C.)

When: Saturday, Nov. 8, 2 p.m. ET
Where: Buchanan Field, Washington, District of Columbia

The best game out of the DMV includes two teams directly out of the District of Columbia when St. John’s College (6-3) and Gonzaga (5-4) square off. The Cadets are coming off a 28-7 win over Bishop McNamara and look to make it consecutive wins since losing to DeMatha Catholic, 23-20, back on Oct. 24. The Eagles’ defense is loaded on the defensive line, led by Michigan commit Carter Meadows and Penn State commitment Tyson Harley. Last year’s meeting between the two D.C. powers went to Gonzaga, 10-7.

Massey Prediction: St. John’s College 24, Gonzaga 20

Kahuku (Hawaii) vs. Kapolei (Hawaii)

When: Saturday, Nov. 8, 10 p.m. PT
Where: John Kauinana Stadium, Mililani, Hawaii

It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish, they say. In the first-ever Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Open Division title game, it’ll it feature Kahuku (7-3) against Kapolei (7-4). It wasn’t exactly the prettiest beginnings for the Red Raiders, one of Hawaii’s most winningest high school football programs as they started off with a 20-0 loss to St. Louis. Only other two losses for the Red Raiders came against nationally ranked Bishop Gorman (Nev.) and Mater Dei (Calif.) as they’ve defeated all other Hawaii-based opponents, including Kapolei in a 21-7 decision.

Massey Prediction: Kahuku 27, Kapolei 14
