New LSU QB commit Peyton Houston coming off five-TD showing for Evangel Christian Academy

Many of the nation’s top quarterbacks in the 2027 cycle are already announcing their college commitments and Peyton Houston is the latest to do so. On Monday morning, the Cotton Valley (La.) Evangel Christian Academy star announced he was staying home and committed to LSU.
Those familiar with Louisiana high school football will already be familiar with Houston. His latest performance last week was another memorable one.
In a 63-42 win over Natchitoches Central, Houston carved his way to 496 total yards and five touchdowns, four of which came through the air. The 5-foot-10 signal-caller dominated with his arm and legs.
The win brought Evangel Christian to 1-1 on the season following a tight season-opening 33-32 loss to Neville, a top-10 team in The Boot. The Eagles currently rank as the No. 25 team in the state, per the Massey Ratings.
Houston balling out is nothing new. As a sophomore, he set the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) record by throwing for 817 yards in a 77-76 loss to Captain Shreve. He threw for eight touchdowns in the loss and finished the year with 5,170 total yards and 45 touchdowns.
Last season, Evangel Christian finished 6-6 — its final win of the year came in a postseason rematch against Captain Shreve. The Eagles are aiming to make a little more noise this fall with an elite arm like Houston back under center. Their next game comes this Friday against C.E. Byrd.
LSU beat Oklahoma for Houston
When Houston set his Sept. 15 commitment date less than two weeks ago, signs were pointing toward Norman as the QB had just wrapped up a visit to see Oklahoma defeat Michigan. LSU was able to get the last word before his decision came, however.

Houston was in Baton Rouge over the weekend, saw LSU defeat Florida at night inside Tiger Stadium and chose the in-state program two days later. The Tigers didn’t sign a QB in the 2025 cycle and are on track to not do so again this cycle. Landing Houston was imperative for head coach Brian Kelly and Co.
The first member of LSU’s 2027 class, Houston checks in as the No. 94 overall prospect, No. 8 QB and No. 5 player in Louisiana in the cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.
“We’re so impressed with him. He’s the complete package,” Evangel head coach Denny Duron said of Houston when speaking with Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman. “Watching some of the best Evangel QB … he is right there with them as a junior in high school. His ability to not only throw the ball — but also to constantly work to improve it … He’s a student of the game. He never enters a contest and doesn’t know exactly what the opponent is going to do. What he’s been able to evaluate on film … he’s resilient. He’s a gamer. He makes throws he shouldn’t be able to make.”
