Bixby's Jayson Moll scores a touchdown during the high school football game between Edmond North and Bixby at Edmond North in Edmond, Okla., Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025.

The closest game No. 22 nationally ranked Bixby (OK) had played heading into Thursday night’s road meeting with Mustang (OK) was at the start of the season. That was a 49-21 win over Owasso.

What began as a weather-delayed matchup turned into what was really the first actual scare for a Spartans club coming off a 92-0 victory over Enid last week.

Bixby needed its defense to come up with second half stops as they battled to a 38-22 victory over Mustang at Bronco Stadium. The Spartans improved to 8-0 on the season and the Broncos dropped to 5-3.

In what had become kind of the norm on a weekly basis for Bixby (8-0), ranked No. 2 currently by the Massey Ratings, was winning by wide margins, but Thursday proved anything but. The final score wasn’t indicative of how close the game really was throughout as the Spartans held a two-point lead at intermission.

Holding on to a 14-12 lead, Bixby exploded for 24 second half points despite still being held well below their regular season average of 66.4 points per game heading into the night.

Mustang (5-3) certainly had their chances throughout the latter two quarters of the game to take the lead, having a touchdown called back and missing a field goal.
