Standouts from Day 1 of 2025 FHS7v7 state championships

THE VILLAGES, Fla.- Mother Nature always seems to be a pest when it comes to Florida high school football and the summer plays out no differently than the fall. The annual FHS7v7 football state championships at The Villages Charter School experienced plenty of weather action on Saturday due to thunderstorms in the Mid-Central Florida region.
Despite the inclement weather, over 40 teams gathered from around the Sunshine State to take in 7-on-7 action to see who will stake the claim to being dubbed the state champion out of the 2-day tournament.
When looking at some of the top teams from around the state of Florida, several contenders for championships come regular season time were in attendance. Among the noticeable teams partaking in the action was Gainesville Buchholz, Florida State High, Ocala Vanguard, Tampa Jesuit, Tampa Plant Sanford Seminole, Sebring and West Orange, respectively.
Here are some of the individual standouts from Day 1 at The Villages Charter School:
Day 1 standouts from June 20, 2025
James Bethea, ATH, Ocala Vanguard
The 2027 athlete has seen his stock blow up and seeing him perform throughout the tournament, you can see why Power 4 schools are chasing after Bethea.
Sergarion Gunsby, LB, Ocala Vanguard
Great size for a high school linebacker at 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Gunsby was patrolling the middle of the field for the Knights. Has offers from Syracuse, Tulane, Western and USF currently.
Terrance Lewis, QB, Ocala Vanguard
Though Lewis is awaiting his turn to see colleges flock all over him, the quarterback was one of the most impressive players on the day.
Jeysen Williams, QB, Sanford Seminole
Next in line under center for Karl Calhoun’s Seminoles is Williams, who was spinning it against some solid competition throughout the FHS7v7’s morning session.
Justin Williams, ATH, Gainesville Buchholz
The University of Florida commitment has been a consistent top performer at the FHS7v7 tournaments all spring and Saturday was just another solid day under the athlete’s belt.
Andrew Whittemore, QB, Gainesville Buchholz
No need to worry, Bobcats’ fans, Whittemore has filled in pretty nicely after Trace Johnson‘s departure to Santa Margarita (California). The 2028 signal caller was checking off all the boxes once again against strong competition.
Tre Kelly, QB, South Lake
It’s pretty tough when you don’t have many of your top targets on the field, but Kelly looked good regardless of the missing pieces offensively.
Sam Armista, WR, South Lake
Armista is a Class of 2029 prospect and he looked good on the day. The wide receiver already has an offer from Murray State.
Darryon Williams, WR, Plant
The Florida State commitment was one of the top route runners out on the fields at the FHS7v7 tourney, no matter who was throwing the ball to him for the Panthers.
Noble Davis, QB, Olympia
Another Class of 2027 prospect that stood out was the Titans’ 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback. Davis was making plenty of pinpoint throws through the afternoon for Travis Gabriel’s squad.
Michael Pyne, QB, Alonso
One of the fast risers in the state when it comes to the talented 2028 class of quarterbacks was impressive before the storms rolled in. Pyne already has offers from East Carolina, Kentucky, Maryland, Ole Miss, Toledo and Wisconsin.

William Matthews, WR, Alonso
Pyne’s top target showed the ability to get open underneath and on vertical routes. Matthews has an offer from Rhode Island currently and could be in line for more very soon.
Jaydon Page, WR, Steinbrenner
The 2027 wide receiver displayed great balance on difficult receptions. Scored four touchdowns on deep throws, proving he will be one to watch out of the New Tampa area.
Rylen Dutka, QB, Steinbrenner
Steinbrenner played multiple quarterbacks, but Dutka stood out among the couple the Warriors played. The underclassman transferred over from Gaither during the off-season.
Andrew Chung, QB, West Orange
Yes, another 2028 signal caller was showing out and Chung is a difficult player to miss. With strong arm and good frame, the quarterback is another that’s been a consistent performer at the FHS7v7’s. Chung has offers already from Arkansas, Florida Atlantic, Purdue, Syracuse and Virginia Tech.
Antonio Dickey Jr., DB, Florida State High
The Seminoles’ defensive back was arguably one of the top defenders on the day. Dickey Jr. is coming off a strong sophomore season in which he made 63 tackles, batted away six passes and notch one interception.
Cowhey Cannon, QB, Florida State High
Good size at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds, Cannon displayed good arm strength and ability to move well within the pocket.
Brycen Marbrey, QB, Lake Howell
Hard to ignore this 2028 quarterback as Marbrey was hitting the mark with his passes all afternoon. Another sophomore that was on par with Pyne and Chung, respectively. Marbrey has offers from Appalachian State and Toledo.
Dylan Curry, QB, Dunnellon
Dunnellon head coach JB Bynum pointed to Curry having a strong day throwing the rock for the Tigers. The senior passer made a bundle of good throws against some good secondaries.
Tony Tanner, RB/LB, Dunnellon
The two-way dynamo for the Tigers played well catching the ball out of the backfield and roaming the middle defensively at linebacker.
