The Texas high school football season started last week and there was no shortage of unexpected results that effected the first set of top 25 rankings out of the Lone Star State.

Top ranked Duncanville had the week off but DeSoto and North Shore both opened the season with surprising losses. So which teams got to take advantage and move up the ranks? Here’s how Massey ranked the top 25 squads in Texas high school football.

1. Duncanville Panthers (0-0)

The Panthers were the only team out of the preseason rankings’ top 10 that didn’t have a game in Week 1.

This week, they’ll get their shot to start off the season when they take on an upset-minded  South Oak Cliff squad that upset North Shore last week. Duncanville will be on upset alert as they’re having to replace a lot of firepower from last year’s offense.

Duncanville continues to be considered a state title contender in the UIL’s Class 6A, Division I classification. The key players this fall to watch for from the Panthers are four-star edge rushers Kevin Ford (Florida commit) and Landon Barnes (Ole Miss commit), wide receiver Trenton Yancey and cornerback Braylon Edwards (SMU commit).

2. North Crowley Panthers (1-0)

In a result that was too close for comfort, the Panthers edged out Lancaster last week in a 22-18 win. This upcoming Friday, North Crowley looks to improve to 2-0 when they take on DeSoto, who is coming off a surprising 70-28 loss to Creekside (Ga.)

The Panthers continue to feature what is one of the most talented defensive secondaries in the Lone Star State, which includes players like Texas Tech commit Aaron Bradshaw, three-star safety Elijajuan Houston, four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse and Colorado State commit Thomas Cook

3. Southlake Carroll Dragons (1-0)

If Week 1 for Southlake Carroll tells folks one thing, its that the Dragons are a team that won’t look much different compared to last season at all.

The Dragons started the season off with a bang when they cruised to a 49-0 rout of Midland last week. Southlake Carroll returns to the field when they face off against Hebron.

Pittsburgh commit Angelo Renda and his favorite target, Ohio State pledge Brock Boyd, who hauled in 111 passes for 1,868 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2024, remain the state’s top quarterback-wide receiver tandem.

4. Aledo Bearcats (1-0)

Despite last year’s starter Gavin Beard transferring to All Saints Episcopal, which opened the door for Nash McElree to emerge as the team’s QB1, the Bearcats looked just fine in Week 1’s 21-14 win over Guyer.

McElree (7 of 11, 39 yards) didn’t have to do much as the team rushed for over 200 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Four-star wide receiver Kaydon Finley (Notre Dame commit) caught four passes for 15 yards in Aledo‘s first game.

Up next for Aledo is a meeting with Lancaster on Friday.

5. Allen Eagles (1-0)

The five-time UIL state champion Allen Eagles looked solid in their Texas high school football opener as they cruised to a 46-13 victory over Midland Legacy.

The Eagles saw the debut of 2029 quarterback Ty Snell with the team after the passer transferred from Lipscomb Academy during the offseason. Snell completed 9 of 11 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown in the win.

6. Longview Lobos (1-0)

Not many teams ran the ball quite like the Longview Lobos did to start the 2025 season.

In their Week 1 41-16 win over Lufkin, the Lobos attempted 44 rushes for 267 yards and scored four touchdowns. Junior quarterback Johnny Hamilton had a solid first outing and completed 11 of 18 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Longview continues at home and welcomes Marshall into town in Week 2.

7. Prosper Eagles (1-0)

The Eagles started the season off with an impressive victory over Westlake in a 29-22 decision. Prosper will lean on an experienced offensive line to lead them to victory week in and week out.

Up front, the team features a trio of future FBS commitments in four-stars Bryce Gilmore (Arkansas), Zaden Krempin (Texas A&M), Sean Stover (Duke) and 6-foot-4, 285-pound junior Will Endicott.

Prosper gets back on the field Thursday night on the road when they take on Rockwall-Heath.

8. Carthage Bulldogs (1-0)

Carthage made a statement with its 21-10 win over Kilgore and remain the favorite to win Texas high school football’s Class 4A Div. II classification.

Quarterback Jett Surratt returns for his senior season after leading the team to a 15-1 record last season. Surratt has no shortage of playmakers around him, with four-star running back KJ Edwards (Texas A&M) and three-star wide receiver Keymian Henderson (Arkansas) both returning.

9. Summer Creek Bulldogs (1-0)

The Bulldogs needed every minute of their opener to edge past Shadow Creek in a 37-32 shootout victory. Heading into this week’s meeting with Lamar, Summer Creek will need to shore up their defense heading into Friday night.

Summer Creek will lean on a pair of talented FBS defensive recruits as they look to start 2-0, behind SMU commit Amontre Harris and Texas State pledge Marrel Davis.

10. Coppell Cowboys (1-0)

The Cowboys slip into the top 10 after a 28-20 victory over Sachse to start the season. Coppell earned the victory behind a strong rushing effort from quarterback Carter Zingelmann, who rushed for over 100 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Zingelmann also had a solid outing through the air as the quarterback completed 16 of 19 passes for 198 yards. The sophomore will look to build on his strong start when the team faces No. 22 Waxahachie this week.

11. Celina (1-0)
12. South Oak Cliff

13. Atascocita

15. Lake Travis (1-0)
